The chilly air hangs on overnight but is has brought needed dry time
The COLDER AIR is drier air and that is welcome but this is too cold. Lows early Tuesday fell into the teens in some locations. The low of 25° early Tuesday is the COLDEST April low temperature in four years. It was also the COOLEST afternoon high temperature in over one month (March 6th). The preliminary high of 43° is the normal for Feb. 22. The chill lingers into Wednesday and a freeze warning is in effect until 9 a.m. Lows will once again fall into the 20s before sunrise.
We welcomed the sun and DRY time on Tuesday. It is the start of soggy season - April ranks 4th wettest month annually. We've already exceeded an entire month of April rainfall in the opening week. The 5.94" is 5x more than average to-date. Top rainfall totals from the past seven days include 10.51" Bargersville (Johnson Co.), 9.17" University of Indianapolis (Marion Co) 7.63", Spencer (Owen Co.). No other April on record has opened this wet.
NEXT RAIN IS LIGHTER ARRIVING WEDNESDAY
Clouds are returning early Wednesday and scattered rain showers (to about 20% coverage) will arrive by early afternoon. Additional rainfall is not welcome, but these look to be on the lighter side, with areal coverage peaking at 40% after sunset Wednesday and amounts at or less than a quarter-inch.
