HAMILTON COUNTY, Ind. - A Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy was injured in a crash on Tuesday.
According to a press release, the crash happened at the intersection of 146th Street and Spring Mill Road around noon. HCSO confirmed the deputy had their car's lights and sirens on before the crash.
The sheriff's office reported that four cars were involved in the crash. The sheriff's deputy and one other adult were transported from the the scene to a local hospital after the crash. HCSO indicated multiple people also suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the crash.
In total, two of the four vehicles involved in the crash sustained visible damage. One of the two visibly damaged cars was the deputy's department-issued vehicle.
Per the sheriff's office, the deputy had their lights and sirens on before the crash because they were responding to a physical altercation that was actively unfolding near the intersection of 146th Street and Warner Trail.
The Carmel Police Department was the first law enforcement agency to make it to the scene of the altercation.
The CPD officer that made it to the scene of the altercation first requested additional assistance upon their arrival because the disturbance was still ongoing. The HCSO deputy involved in the crash was among the law enforcement personnel that responded to the CPD's officer's call for assistance.
CPD, HCSO and Westfield Police Department units responded to both the altercation and the crash involving the deputy. HCSO reported that it is still actively investigating the crash.
In it's press release on the incident, the sheriff's office did not specify exactly what caused the crash. As of this article's publication, no additional information on either of the incidents had been made available.
