IMPD: Man arrested after Monday shooting on near northwest side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS --A 43-year-old was arrested in relation to a reported shooting on Monday on the near northwest side of Indianapolis.
According to officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Burdsal Parkway on a report of a person shot just before 10 p.m. on Monday. When officers arrived, they found a woman who reportedly had a gunshot wound.
A news release from IMPD surrounding the shooting said that the woman was transported to an area hospital. As part of a preliminary investigation, officers learned that the shooter, later alleged as 43-year-old Brandon Rivers, fled the scene.
The investigation reportedly revealed that a disturbance occurred between Rivers and the woman inside a home. Officials said in the release that three children were reportedly inside the home when the shooting occurred.
On Wednesday, Rivers was located in the 9300 block of East Washington Street and was taken into custody. IMPD officials said that Rivers was reportedly armed with a handgun during the arrest. The department alleges the handgun had recently been reported stolen.
Rivers was arrested on the following preliminary charges:
- Battery with a deadly weapon
- Domestic battery with a deadly weapon
- Unlawful possession of a handgun by a domestic batterer
- Unlawful carrying of a handgun with a prior conviction
- Possession of cocaine.
