Marion police arrest 15-year-old accused of stabbing man multiple times

MARION, Ind. -- Marion police have arrested a juvenile accused of stabbing a man multiple times inside his home early Thursday morning.




According to a news release, officers with the Marion Police Department were called around 1:59 a.m. to a residence located in the 100 block of S. Forrest Avenue. MPD said officers arrived and found a man, later identified as 57-year-old Michael Daniels, suffering from several stab wounds. Officers also discovered a 15-year-old juvenile inside the residence who was unconscious at the time.




Officers later spoke with Daniels, who recalled waking up after hearing someone moving around inside the residence. The man went on to reportedly confront the juvenile before an altercation broke out. MPD said the two "wrestled" for just over 20 minutes. It was during this encounter that Daniels was allegedly stabbed.




Daniels added that the juvenile allegedly tried to reach for a machete that they had brought with them inside the house and that he "feared for his life." He ended up using a TV tray table to defend himself from the juvenile, MPD said.




Officers provided medical aid to Daniels and the juvenile while they waited for EMS to arrive on the scene. Both were then transferred to Marion Health for medical treatment, where they were later released.




Shortly after locating the juvenile's mother, police interviewed the juvenile who allegedly told them that they had been thinking of "killing someone," according to MPD. The juvenile went on to allegedly state that they believed this was the night to carry this act out.




Preliminary information indicates the juvenile gained entry into the residence through the laundry room window, MPD said. As of this article's publication, MPD has not provided a condition for Daniels.




The juvenile was placed under arrest and transported to a juvenile facility outside of Grant County. MPD said the juvenile has been preliminarily charged with burglary resulting in injury, attempted murder, attempted burglary and stalking.
