SEYMOUR, Ind. - A woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash near Seymour Tuesday morning.
According to a press release, the Seymour police and fire departments and Jackson County EMS were called to the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Stevens Way around 6:20 a.m. on a report of a crash. When crews arrived at the scene, they located two cars that had been involved in a crash - a gold 2007 Mazda passenger car and a 2025 Freightliner box truck.
The driver of the gold Mazda - 41-year-old Anna E. Grove of Seymour - was transported from the scene to Schneck Medical Center via ambulance after the crash. Personnel from the Jackson County Coroner's Office ultimately pronounced Grove dead at the hospital.
Police confirmed that the driver of the Freightliner box truck was not injured in the crash.
Because one individual involved in the crash had died, SPD asked Indiana State Police crash reconstructions to respond to the scene.
ISP investigators ultimately concluded that the crash happened when Grove tried to turn from eastbound U.S. Highway 50 to northbound Stevens Way. When Grove made the turn, her vehicle crossed into the box truck driver's path.
Grove's vehicle was struck by the Freightliner box truck in the middle of the U.S. Highway 50's intersection with Stevens Way.
Police closed a portion of U.S. Highway 50 for two hours while they cleaned up and investigated the crash.
ISP's investigation of the crash is still ongoing. Police are still waiting to get the results of toxicology tests that were conducted during their investigation, though troopers do not currently believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
