BV Music Review: Val Watson - 'URBAL'

If you're a fan of the classic R&B sound fused with funk, this CD is for you. Val Watson's greatest challenge might be to make this work relevant to a younger audience but, make no mistake, this IS for the grown and sexy. Sensual tracks like 'Whether You Know It' featuring Jane Eugene of Loose Ends are just what the doctor ordered when it comes to creating a romantic ambience for you and your significant other.

To my spoken word people? You WILL dig Val Watson. The laid-back, funk/jazz grooves are a perfect fit for any and every coffee shop/lounge/poetry set/theater.

Do you have cookouts? (Who doesn't?) Good. Put this album on and let it play from start to finish. Very relaxing.

Being the Hip Hop fan that I am, I'd love to hear a future collaboration between Val Watson and, say, Common or Mos Def or Talib Kweli, etc. I think it would sound amazing and she wouldn't have to compromise her work for it to be successful.

Bottom line, do you fit into ANY of the following categories:

1. 25-55 years old

2. Love to listen to relaxing music after a hard day's work.

3. Consider yourself to be a romantic.

4. Always looking for quality music to play during cookouts.

If so, Val Watson's 'Urbal' is for you.
