Author, writer and producer Joseph H. James, Jr. has written a compelling and sultry novel entitled "Soul Baby". The romance novel is a sensual, spirit-filled and educational journey into the lives of a group of upwardly mobile African American couples. After years of being married, Lloyd and Laney Dennison are having lack of trust and communication issues. Lloyd steps up and showers his beautiful wife with gifts, including the titillating novel Soul Baby. It is in the novel where Laney reads and becomes in tune with her own marriage. Each couple is struggling with their individual outlooks on companionship while coming to terms with their social identities. After seeking a confirmation from a very comical and smart comedian, they reach out and seek help from a wise but unorthodox therapist, Valeria Winters. Each of the couples comes to grip with hidden truths and insecurities. The stories are intertwined beautifully with wisdom, joy, excitement and deception. We'll learn from the therapist's hands-on evaluation about finding the perfect soul mate, as well as the wisdom of the older relatives about life lessons and relationships.

One of my homies just called me & told me I need to watch this documentary called "Frustrated: Black American Men In Brazil" which I'm sure will raise some seriously heated discussions. The documentary is almost an hour long & I only got about 5 minutes into to it before I decided to go ahead & post this up for discussion. Check out a more detailed synopsis of the documentary below....
"Al Greeze decided to produce Frustrated after reading a September 2006 Essence Magazine article (Blame it On Rio) written by Professor William Jelani Cobb, which stated that African men were travelling to Brazil for sex vacations with Brazilian prostitutes and the adulation of the Brazilian women Greeze wanted to either confirm or deny and reveal the answers from the men themselves and find out if it is for love and companionship or just sex. The effect may have been suspected but what is the cause?
Through research, personal accounts and testimonies from the men who fall in love or date Brazilian women and the reaction and opinions of the women both in the U.S. and in Brazil, the film touches and unlocks some heartfelt emotions to these complex issues including the economic and educational divide between the sexes and the possibly unachievable roles each places on the other. Although the film exams the controversial topic of relationships outside of the African American race and the country, the film's goal is to elicit open conversation and communication amongst men and women, strengthen the family dynamic and give both sides a platform to give an honest account.
Frustrated ask such questions as why are African American men finding love outside of their race, what do they feel is missing from African American woman and are African American women now in competition with Brazilian women as they are with other races...is there really a threat, or are the women saying good riddance we don't need you or are they fighting for their men?" - BlackDoom77

Magic Slim, the American blues guitarist and leading figure in the Chicago blues scene, has died aged 75.
Slim had more than 30 albums to his credit since releasing his debut, Born On a Bad Sign, in 1977.
"There's probably not another bluesman who had quite the repertoire that Slim had," said his manager, Martin Salzman.
Slim died in hospital in Philadelphia where he was being treated for various ailments, Mr Salzman confirmed.
Born Morris Holt to Mississippi farmers in August 1937, Slim gave up the piano and turned to guitar after losing a finger in a cotton gin accident when he was 13.
He made his first trip to Chicago in 1955, starting off as the bass player for a friend and mentor known as Magic Sam, who allowed the younger musician to take his nickname.
Slim cut his first single, Scufflin, in 1966 and became a Chicago blues fixture in his own right, developing a guitar style that blended a distinct vibrato with a slide-guitar-like sound formed with his bare fingers against the strings.
The guitarist was recognised as much for his powerful, gruff vocals as his musicianship and was known for playing with picks on both the thumb and index finger of his right hand.
A heavy smoker who suffered from emphysema and heart problems, he cut short a tour with his band, the Teardrops, in late January, Mr Salzman said.
While Slim lived in recent years with his family in Nebraska, "Chicago was always like home to him," his manager said.BB
