In front of a nearly sold-out house in the Richmond Auditorium, Squarevision Entertainment headed by Michael Bazan, returned for their third show in roughly eight months. The main event saw the crowning of the first GBO champion, a belt that Squarevision created to signify the best in their division under their banner, as Bilal Mahasin defeated Will Walters in a dominate decision win. Mahasin, who appeared to have had the best training camp of his life with his superhero physic, outmuscled, a game, but outgunned Walters, who after the second round appeared to be looking for ways to survive rather than win. For Mahasin, this fight now allows him more power to leverage in terms of getting big fights and garnering the main event billing.
In the co-main event, Casey Morton and Blanca Raymudno fought to a draw in a competitive bout. ITRBoxing scored the fight 39-37 in favor of Morton, but the second and third rounds essentially where swing rounds that could of gone either way. The fight was fought with in close quarters as never women wished to move an inch. Raymundo consistently pushed forward as Morton landed the cleaner shots, it could be argued that Raymundo was being more aggressive by simply moving forward though not being as active. The fight was also dramatically altered by a head clash that left a gapping wound in Morton's noggin that seemed to startle her a tad bit in the middle rounds.
Adam Fiel fought a competitive bout against game Manuel Romero, who tried to play the role of spoiler. Much like Fiel's last bout in which a head clash caused a bit of problems for the young fighter, Romero used methods employed by that rugged fighters by trying to make the fight dirty and ugly. What manifested was a fun, action packed fight where Fiel may have gotten a hit a bit more than he would of liked, because of the awkwardness of Romero. Nonetheless, Fiel emerged with the victory though the fight may have been a bit closer than one would of hoped.
Moises Benitez returned to action at junior welterweight, but not for very long as a hard right hand to the belly of Khrys Daniel seemed to trap him into corners in which he would be unable to escape from flurries of punches. Daniels was knocked down three times in the first round before the ref called a stop to the action. After the fight, Benitez commented that he wants to fight for a GBO title either at junior welterweight or at lightweight. When asked which he would prefer he explained junior welterweight, the belt that Bilal Mahasin won that very night. Benitez also commented that it is completely up to his promoter as to what he does next.
Brandon Adams became the number one contender for the GBO welterweight title after an impressive hook thrown with conviction dropped Rasheed Lawal in the second round, a punch Lawal never would recover from. For Adams, it is a story book turn around to his career as he started out his professional career 0-2, but has since riffled off three straight wins with his last two being knockout victories. Adams, who donned a "Sugar" Ray Robinson inspired hairstyle will compete at the next event for the GBO title.
Joel Siapno earned his first professional win by stopping AJ Safi by way of technical knockout. The explosive puncher, Siapno, landed a right hand with bad intentions that made Safi go into survival mode. After 15 seconds of Safi literally running from Siapno without any interest in engaging the referee called a stop to the bout. Siapno credited a shaky start to his pro career for his new calm demeanor as he is now more methodical when he his foe hurt, so that he doesn't get hit with something hard getting careless.
Luis Garcia made his debut in his hometown of Richmond, CA by stopping Daniel Morales by way of first round knockout. Garcia sta
