Whole Foods Removes Offensive Chicken Sale Ad Featuring Obama

An Upper West Side Whole Foods has removed a sign that used a drawing of President Barack Obama to advertise a sale on chicken after complaints that the ad was offensive.

The sign outside the supermarket on Columbus Avenue and 97th Street featuring an apparent caricature of Obama advertising an upcoming sale on whole organic chicken outraged neighbor Woody Henderson.

"There are certain things that have been used to put down black people - watermelon, fried chicken," he said.

Jason Nunez of the Bronx said, "Even if he's not the president, you're going to have an African American promoting the sale of chicken? They can do better than that."

Residents and passersby agreed the man in the sign looks like Obama but not all thought it was derogatory.
What do you think?

Cornel West: President Obama Doesn't Deserve To Be Sworn In With MLK's Bible

While most of us were celebrating the inauguration of President Obama during Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, Professor Cornel West did a critical analysis and comparison for the fight that Martin fought and the message Obama delivered.

"You don't play with Martin Luther King, Jr. and you don't play with his people, said West. "By his people, I mean people of good conscience, fundamentally good people committed to peace and truth and justice, especially the Black tradition that produced it."

"All of the blood, sweat and tears that went into producing a Martin Luther King, Jr. generated a brother of such high decency and dignity that you don't use his prophetic fire for a moment of presidential pageantry without understanding the challenge he represents to all of those in power regardless of what color they are.

"The righteous indignation of a Martin Luther King, Jr. becomes a moment of political calculation. And that makes my blood boil. Why? Because Martin Luther King, Jr died…he died…for the three crimes against humanity that he was wrestling with. Jim Crow, traumatizing, terrorizing, stigmatizing Black people. Lynching, not just 'segregation' as the press likes to talk about.
"Second: Carpet bombing in Vietnam killing innocent people, especially innocent children, those are war crimes that Martin Luther King , Jr. was willing to die for. And thirdly, was poverty of all colors, he said it is a crime against humanity for the richest nation in the world to have so many of it's precious children of all colors living in poverty and especially on the chocolate side of the nation, and on Indian reservations and Brown barrios and yellow slices and Black ghettos - we call them hoods now, but ghettos then.

"So I said to myself ain't nothing wrong with putting your hand on the bible, even though the bible's talking about justice, Jesus is talking about the least of these, but when you put it on Martin's bible, I said 'this is personal for me,' because this is the tradition that I come out of."

Lupe Fiasco Removed From Inaugural Performance After Anti-Obama Rant

Last night (January 20), Lupe Fiasco was removed from the stage at Sunday's StartUp RockOn concert at the Hamilton Live in Washington, D.C., as part of the weekend's inaugural festivities.

In an anti-Obama performance, Lupe Fiasco performed his 2011 track "Words I Never Said," in what has been described was a 30 min rant.

Taking his stance on the United States and Israeli conflict, and stating that Glenn Back and Rush Limbaugh were racists, Lupe ripped President Obama for what he viewed as a lack of support for the Gaza strip and other issues close to his heart.

"And these the same people supposedly telling us the truth/ Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn beck is a racist, Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn't say sh-/ That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either/ I'm part of the problem, my problem is I'm peaceful," Lupe rapped.

While many have speculated that Lupe was kicked off the stage for his political beliefs, in a statement released by HyperVocal, the event's organizers say they were dissatisfied with his overall performance and that it was time for the next act.

"This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act," HyperVocal said in a statement to the press.

Lupe is well-known to be outspoken with his political beliefs, as Lupe has been quoted in the past stating that he refuses to pledge allegiance to the United States flag due to his belief that it goes against the Muslim faith.
In the past Lupe Fiasco has even gone as far as to call President Barack Obama a terrorist and refused to vote in last November's elections.

Big Boi Politics: 1/2 Of Outkast Speaks On Why He Didn't Vote For President Barack Obama (Video)

If you follow Big Boi on twitter like I do then you should already have an idea of his political views. Personally I find myself having more in common with Big Boi's political views than most people which is one of the primary reasons I do follow him on twitter. I don't follow many artists on twitter unless they do have something significant to say or if they are able to bring my attention to something important other than "entertainment".   I'm an independent & I agree with many of the views of the Libertarian party although I don't have any political affiliations with ANY political party. In the last presidential election my views fell in line more with candidates like Jill Stein or Gary Johnson more than President Barack Obama, but unfortunately the way the American political process works it was clear to me Jill Stein & Gary Johnson didn't have a shot at actually winning.  Although more independent voices are cropping up over the past decade the reality is until there is significant campaign reform candidates like them many never have a real shot.  In an ideal world I would have voted for either of those two, but I feel wasting a vote on a candidate that is unable to actually win played a huge part in my personal decision & voting for Mitt Romney was entirely out of the question.  In a recent interview on HuffPost Live, Big Boi sets the record straight for people who "assumed" he voted for President Barack Obama in addition to a few other hot button topics. Check out more of the interview in the videos below after the jump.....
