Doin' It In The Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC (Movie Trailer)

There's only one question in the street game (e.g. pick-up basketball): Who got next? Well, in the indie film game it's Bobbito and Kevin. and their movie "Doin' It In The Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC."

'"Doin' It In The Park: Pick-Up Basketball, NYC" is an independent documentary directed by Bobbito Garcia and Kevin Couliau. The film explores the definition, history, culture, and social impact of New York's outdoor summer b-ball scene, the worldwide "Mecca" of the sport. In New York City, pick-up basketball is not just a sport. It is a way of life. There are 700+ outdoor courts, and an estimated 500,000 players, the most loyal of which approach the game as a religion, and the playground as their church.'

Enjoy the trailer above.

Lenny Cooke (movie trailer)

Lenny Cooke (movie trailer)

Just stumbled across this today.

For anybody that doesn't know, Lenny Cooke was considered perhaps the best high school basketball player in 2001. Going into the 2001 ABCD Basketball camp, he was touted more than Lebron James and Carmelo Anthony. Granted, both were younger than him at the time, but still...dude was a pretty big deal. He opted to skip college and go pro...and in the process he's become a cautionary tale and somewhat of a trump card for people who were totally against high school players going straight to the pros. Unless you read basketball blogs, old SLAM magazine articles or know someone in his family, you probably haven't heard much, if anything at all about Cooke in damn near 10 years.

But now a documentary on Cooke's life is set to come out and show us what went wrong. So far the film has been getting rave reviews at film festivals across the country. The executive producer is Chicago Bulls' forward Joakim Noah, who says that Cooke was his favorite player growing up. For more of a back story on what may have sent Cooke's life in the opposite direction (yes, Lebron may have had something to do with it), peep this write up by the homie Justin Tinsley.

Also, watching this has me wondering what happened to Darius Washington, Jr. I mean, I know what happened, but a documentary on him would probably be interesting as well

The story of Lenny Cooke is not unique. Its a story told too many times when a dream is deferred and the once ambitious talent is broke and destitute.

CHAD JOHNSON And EVELYN LOZADA Finalize Divorce

Six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Chad Johnson's divorce from reality TV star Evelyn Lozada was finalized Wednesday, a little more than a month after his arrest on a domestic battery charge, his lawyer said.

Johnson was competing for a roster spot on the Miami Dolphins when Lozada accused him on Aug. 12 of head-butting her during an argument about condoms she found, and she filed for divorce. The Dolphins promptly cut the 34-year-old Johnson, who is still not on an NFL roster after stellar seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and a not-so-great year with the New England Patriots.

In an interview with Showtime's "Inside the NFL" scheduled to air Wednesday, Johnson, who still faces a misdemeanor battery charge, says he's taking anger management classes.

"I'm trying to find out how can I channel my anger when I'm in situations to where I would pop off," he says. "How can I diffuse those situations, trigger points?"
Johnson's attorney Adam Swickle said the divorce was governed by a confidential prenuptial agreement.

"Being married, being a husband, being a lover, was an honor," Johnson says in the interview. "And I lost that. And you know that saying ... 'You never know what you have until it's gone.' And now I finally know what they mean. I lost two of the things that really meant the most to me. That someone completed my world, completed me, period. But I just hadn't made that transition to where I needed to be the best man that I could, or best husband that I could. I didn't make it all the way, fully."

The receiver changed his last name back to Johnson from the playful Ochocinco that was in reference to his uniform No. 85. He has said he changed it because of his July 4 marriage to Lozada, who stars on TV's "Basketball Wives."

A representative for Lozada said Wednesday's final divorce hearing was uncontested.

"My client is a single woman and looks forward to her future," Danika Berry said in an email.

In the interview, Johnson says he takes full responsibility for the altercation.

"Chad has to work on Chad," he says. "Chad has to go deep down inside and figure out where he went wrong. At what point did you lose focus on what's most important? Like especially the game of football. . At some point I had drifted off track away from that and being one of the best at what I do."
Johnson and Lozada were prominent in episodes of HBO's "Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Miami Dolphins."

Even before his arrest, Johnson was battling to salvage his career. He was released by the Patriots after totaling only 15 receptions last season. He dropped the lone pass thrown his way in his lone exhibition game with the Dolphins.

VH1's "Basketball Wives" is filmed in Miami and also features Shaunie O'Neal, the former wife of former NBA star Shaquille O'Neal. Lozada is the former fiancee of NBA player Antoine Walker

Big Boi Performs At Outside Lands Festival, Says His DJ Owes Him $80K

Team USA Basketball's Gold Beats By Dre Studio Headphones

Just in case you haven't been paying attention, the good Big Boi is prepping his sophomore album, Vicious Lies & Dangerous Rumors. The ATL rap legend's new album isn't in stores until November 13th, but he's been performing in various spots to make sure people know at least one half of OutKast can still be readily found rocking a stage. Recently, the man born Antwan Patton hit the stage of the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco, California.

Big Boi was actually supposed to perform at Outside Lands last year, but there were some unforeseen circumstances that left his DJ owing him 80 stacks. 'My DJ Cutmaster Swiff, his computer...or whatever his equipment he has to play the music froze up. Mind you I gave this ni--a a budget to get three computers to have a back up and a back up to back up the back up. So he f-cked up about $80,000 cause we couldn't do the show. So, the ni--a paying it back, slowly but surely.'

It's all love with Swiff (who contends the show could have still gone on) and Daddy Fat Saxx, though. The latter does crack a joke about Swift eventually having to DJ for the "General Patton" rapper's kids, too.
Check out some photos of Big Boi handling his business in front of the crowd in the gallery and behind the scenes footage in the clip below.

Last Sunday, Team USA's Men's Basketball squad of elite NBA players took home the gold at the London Olympics by beating Spain. Besides earning shiny gold medals, the players were also laced with custom gold Beats By Dre headphones after their W. We saw LeBron James rocking his at afterparty that featured Swizz Beatz and Nas.

The custom heaphones are the Studio models and unfortunately you won't be able to ever find them in stores. The custom headphones were strictly made for Team USA so unless you were in London hooping with Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and the rest of team USA, you can only admire these from afar.

Nas' standout record on his incredible album, Life Is Good, is getting the visual treatment courtesy of Aristotle. The most talked about song, 'Bye Baby' which encapsulates the highs and lows of the marriage to his estranged wife, Kelis.

The song is produced by Salaam Remi and Noah '40' Shebib, and from what we can gather from these behind the scenes photos from BAM, this one looks like it will hit close to home.

This will be the fourth video off of Nas' album following 'The Don,' 'Nasty,' and 'Daughters.' Hit the jump and check out the behind the scenes photos for the video to 'Bye Baby.' Don't blow a good thing.

Adam 'MCA' Yauch Prohibits His Music For Commercial Use

Diddy Reportedly Very Close To Joining American Idol

Rolling Stone recently obtained a copy of Adam 'MCA' Yauch's will that he constructed shortly before he passed away. The Beastie Boys' member specifically prohibits the use of his music and "artistic property" for advertising purposes after his death.

'Notwithstanding anything to the contrary, in no event may my image or name or any music or any artistic property created by me be used for advertising purposes,' the will states. The phrase 'or any music or any artistic property created by me' was added in handwriting.

The will, which was passed on Tuesday in a Manhattan court, leaves Yauch's $6.4 million estate to his wife, Dechen, and their daughter, Tenzin Losel. Yauch passed away on May 4th, 2012 after a three-year battle with salivary gland cancer.

The producers of Fox's American Idol have reportedly been wooing Bad Boy CEO and Hip-Hop mogul, Sean 'Diddy' Combs to become a judge on the show. After Aerosmith front man, Steven Tyler, opted to leave the show this season along with Jennifer Lopez two seats were up for grabs on America's biggest karaoke contest.

Jennifer Lopez was reportedly replaced by the incomparable Mariah Carey, and Diddy is said to be high on the wish list of the show's producers to replace Tyler along with Pharrell Williams. Diddy has oversaw the careers of many musical luminaries including The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Lil Kim and many more. What we wouldn't give for Jennifer Lopez and Diddy to be judges on that show? Now that would've been some great TV!

The Team USA Men's Basketball team took home the Gold medal, so of course the after party was going to be live. LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony and the rest of the squad partied at Club Bud in London, which featured the still relevant Swizz Beatz, who brought out a special guest in Queensbridge rapper Nas to close out the festivities.

'Club Bud' was a two-day pop-up club located in Roundhouse London on Chalk Farm Road and was sponsored by Best Events and Tao Group (TAO & Marquee nightclubs).

Check out photos of the players and entertainers, including Nas performing with a bottle of Ace of Spades in his hands and a pair of Olympic Air Force 180s on his feet, having a blast in the gallery.

VH1 and Shaunie O'Neal Fire 3 Cast Members Due To Falling Ratings

According to gossip website TMZ.com, VH1 and Shaq's ex Shaunie O'Neal have axed 3 cast members of the problematic Basketball Wives reality show. If true, it can be assumed that VH1 and Shaunie found 3 new cast members - who were recruited to be "friends" of the other cast members.

A source told TMZ that Royce Reed, left, Jennifer Williams (right) and Kesha Nichols (center) also got their walking papers - and will be replaced next season.

TMZ claims Royce was axed because her baby daddy, Dwight Howard, got a judge to force Royce to keep his name out of her mouth. Jennifer was let go because she filed a fake lawsuit against Nia Crooks for slapping her on the show, and Kesha was just too "boring."

If this is true, the women are being fired to make room for new cast members who will breathe life into the show's falling ratings.

As you know, most urban reality shows are scripted urban soap operas surrounding a cast of fake "friends" who really didn't know each other until they met to read the scripts for the first time.

Networks such as VH1 and Bravo have audiences of gullible women (and some men) who believe everything the network throws at them. Thanks to blogs and other intellectuals, the public is now more aware of the wicked motivations behind these so-called urban "reality" shows.

An inside source told me that VH1 is dismayed that I seem to know so much about what's going on behind the scenes. The source told me that one of the producers asked her if she was telling me anything about the cast members. But she didn't have to tell me anything. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist to see through their bullsh*t
