Damon Wayans has finalized a deal to headline the CBS TV Studios multi-camera comedy pilot set at a sports radio station.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the pilot is written by Bill Martin and Mike Schiff ("Grounded for Life") and is inspired by acerbic ESPN personality Colin Cowherd. Wayans' character is named Nick Herd.
Andy Cadiff ("Hot in Cleveland," "Rules of Engagement," "My Wife and Kids") will direct the pilot.
Martin, Schiff and Cowherd will executive produce with Eric and Kim Tannenbaum ("Running Wilde," "Two and Half Men") whose Tannenbaum Co. is set up at CBS Studios with a three-year overall deal.
Danny Comden ("Dirt," "Urban Legend") has also joined the cast as the manipulative producer of Herd's show.
Wayans - who hails from the famous comedic family behind "In Living Color" - has built a career as an actor and comedian as well as a producer and director. His on-screen include ABC's "My Wife and Kids" and the Showtime sketch comedy series "The Underground." He also headlined a string of features including "Major Payne" and "The Last Boy Scout."
A combination of old stars including Mick Jagger and Barbra Streisand and newer faces such as Justin Bieber and Katy Perry lifted the music industry's Grammy Awards on Sunday to their biggest audience in 10 years.
Television network CBS on Monday said 26.55 million viewers tuned in to see country trio Lady Antebellum win song of the year and record of the year with "Need You Now" and Canadian rockers Arcade Fire claim best album for "The Suburbs."
Total viewership was up 3 percent from last year's 25.87 million, CBS said, as music fans watched Mick Jagger pay tribute to the late Solomon Burke by singing "Everybody Needs Somebody" and Justin Bieber in a duet with Jaden Smith.
The Grammys are given out by the U.S.-based Recording Academy. In recent years, organizers have reduced the number of awards given away in the televised portion of the show and emphasized performances as a way to keep audiences tuned in.
This year's honors included some of the biggest names in pop music, hip-hop and rap, country and rock. Among the other singers were Lady Gaga and Eminem.
NEW YORK - Emmy-winning CBS News correspondent Harold Dow, who helped shape the documentary program "48 Hours" and covered the kidnapping of Patricia Hearst and the Sept. 11 attacks, has died. He was 62.
Dow died suddenly Saturday morning in New Jersey, network spokeswoman Louise Bashi said. He lived in Upper Saddle River, N.J., but it wasn't immediately clear if he'd been at home.
Dow had been a correspondent for "48 Hours" since 1990. His nearly 40 years with the network also included reporting for "CBS Evening News with Dan Rather" and "CBS News Sunday Morning."
A "48 Hours" report on runaways earned him a George Foster Peabody Award. He also won five Emmys, for work including coverage of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, and of American troops' movement into Bosnia in 1996.
"Insatiably curious, he was happiest when he was on the road deep into a story," Susan Zirinsky, executive producer of "48 Hours Mystery," said in a statement. "It was his humanity, which was felt by everyone he encountered, even in his toughest interviews, that truly defined the greatness of his work. He was the most selfless man I have known."
Dow landed an exclusive interview with kidnapping victim Hearst in December 1976, and he had the first network interview with O.J. Simpson following the 1994 killing of his ex-wife. He barely escaped one of the falling twin towers on Sept. 11, 2001, the network said.
Dow was a contributor to "48 Hours on Crack Street," the 1986 documentary that led to the creation of the weekly "48 Hours." Before that, he had been a co-anchor on "CBS News Nightwatch" and a correspondent and reporter at the CBS News Los Angeles bureau. He started his career with the network as a broadcast associate in 1972.
As a co-anchor and talk-show host for KETV in Omaha, Neb., he was the first African-American television reporter in that city.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy, and their three children.

NEW YORK - CBS Corp. remains in talks with Oprah Winfrey about the future of her syndicated daytime talk show, with Winfrey set to make a decision by year's end.
Asked about the future of the show, CBS CEO Leslie Moonves said Thursday that CBS has it locked up through "most of 2011" and is "in constant conversations" with its star.
"She's a legend," and the company would like to keep a relationship with her, he said. "We will probably know in a couple of months. We're in dialogue."
A spokesman for Winfrey's Harpo Prods. also said that she has not made a decision yet.
"As she has previously stated, she'll be making an announcement before the end of the year," he added.
Earlier in the day, a blog report had said Winfrey had decided to move the talk show to Discovery Communications and Harpo's joint venture, OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network, once the CBS deal expires
LOS ANGELES - Actor Samuel L. Jackson's UppiTV has set up two series projects at CBS, a comedy and a medical drama.
Both shows are produced by CBS TV Studios, which has extended its deal with UppiTV for another year.

The multicamera comedy, from writer Bob Kushell, is about the wife of a U.S. congressman who inherits her husband's seat when he dies unexpectedly in the middle of his term.
Writer Andrea Newman's medical drama centers on an emergency room doctor who uses unconventional methods to treat his patients.
Jackson will executive produce the projects alongside their respective writers.
Kushell's credits include "Samantha Who?" and "3rd Rock From the Sun." Newman has worked on "Private Practice" and "Cold Case."
Jackson started his push into TV producing last year when he signed a first-look deal with CBS Studios. His only previous stint as TV producer is with Spike TV's animated series "Afro Samurai."
Vevo, an online music video start-up backed by two major music labels and supported by YouTube's technology platform, is in talks with CBS Corp and NBC to license and develop shows for the Web, according to two people familiar with the talks.
The website Vevo is the music industry's answer to Hulu, the popular
U.S.-based online service backed by NBC Universal, News Corp and Walt Disney Co.
Vevo, which is due for launch by December, is being designed to offer
high-quality music videos and music-related programing. It will be separate from Google's YouTube, whose technology will be the framework for the new site. Currently, YouTube is the home to most music videos on the Web.
Vivendi's Universal Music Group, the world's largest music company and YouTube, first announced plans for the service in April. So far Vevo has signed one content and equity partnership deal with Sony Music Entertainment.
A person familiar with Vevo's plans said similar deals are on the table with Warner Music Group and EMI Group. An agreement with Warner will likely be delayed because of an ongoing dispute with YouTube over financial terms.
The partners intend for Vevo to move beyond simply being a website for music videos and artist interviews. They hope to develop original music-related content with experienced programing partners like CBS, NBC, ABC and Fox. Such programing could also potentially be aired on TV as well.
It could mean that Vevo would eventually be a competitor to Viacom Inc's MTV Networks empire of cable shows.
ADDITIONAL FUNDING
It is not yet clear if Vevo will require additional funding ahead of its
launch, though the company has had talks with financial investors such as private equity partners who have shown an interest in backing the start-up, according to the person familiar with the plans.
Providence Equity Partners was one of Hulu's investors along with its
content partners. It was also one of the private equity investors in Warner Music in 2004 when the music company became independent from Time Warner Inc.
Former Universal Music head of digital Rio Caraeff was appointed as Vevo chief executive earlier this summer.
Vevo's higher quality music videos will be expected to generate revenue by advertising in and around the music clips. The founders hope...More Vevo
