The story of Lenny Cooke is not unique. Its a story told too many times when a dream is deferred and the once ambitious talent is broke and destitute.

VICE: West African Truckers (Documentary)

VICE: West African Truckers (Documentary)

Damn! Vice has always delivered compelling video content. Which is why we feature episodes here (and likely why HBO and Bill Maher are banking on it now). But this... this is off the chain!

'Trade in West Africa is perennially f*cked,' according to Vice.com, due to the oppressive colonization; and to the corrupt post-colonial governments that took over once the White man left (unfortunately, they learned the lessons of awful government well). Given those traditions' influence on modern transportation regulation (or lack thereof), we have the realities of West Africa road delivery today: from internal checkpoints manned by local police and customs agents on the lookout for smugglers intimidating everyone they can for bribes... 'Then there's just f*ckers who'll pull you over and straight-up rob you,' Vibe.com reports. Then there are poorly maintained roads. All of this makes it hard on West African truckers... who more often than not, turn to booze and roadside prostitution. Which is where the AIDS comes in. Yeah, getting it and spreading it on the road.

'Intrigued by the African long-haul trucker's dual reputation as the foundational building block of West Africa's would-be robust economy and lotharious Johnny AIDS-leseed, we hitched a ride with a trailer full of soap to see just how hard it is to get from point A to point basically A and a half.'

Again... Damn! Watch the vid.

Five days for a 200-mile trip??? DAMN hard to pass that time. A million bottles of beer on the wall...

Frustrated: Black American Men In Brazil (Documentary)

One of my homies just called me & told me I need to watch this documentary called "Frustrated: Black American Men In Brazil" which I'm sure will raise some seriously heated discussions. The documentary is almost an hour long & I only got about 5 minutes into to it before I decided to go ahead & post this up for discussion. Check out a more detailed synopsis of the documentary below....

"Al Greeze decided to produce Frustrated after reading a September 2006 Essence Magazine article (Blame it On Rio) written by Professor William Jelani Cobb, which stated that African men were travelling to Brazil for sex vacations with Brazilian prostitutes and the adulation of the Brazilian women Greeze wanted to either confirm or deny and reveal the answers from the men themselves and find out if it is for love and companionship or just sex. The effect may have been suspected but what is the cause?

Through research, personal accounts and testimonies from the men who fall in love or date Brazilian women and the reaction and opinions of the women both in the U.S. and in Brazil, the film touches and unlocks some heartfelt emotions to these complex issues including the economic and educational divide between the sexes and the possibly unachievable roles each places on the other. Although the film exams the controversial topic of relationships outside of the African American race and the country, the film's goal is to elicit open conversation and communication amongst men and women, strengthen the family dynamic and give both sides a platform to give an honest account.

Frustrated ask such questions as why are African American men finding love outside of their race, what do they feel is missing from African American woman and are African American women now in competition with Brazilian women as they are with other races...is there really a threat, or are the women saying good riddance we don't need you or are they fighting for their men?" - BlackDoom77

[WATCH] Beyonce's 'Life Is But A Dream' HBO Documentary

Beyonce's Life Is But A Dream documentary premiered on HBO yesterday. Bey unveiled a side of herself not often seen including revealing pictures of her daughter and talking about the bond and love she has for husband Jay-Z.
Here are some of the best quotes we picked from the reining Queen of Pop Music.

"Letting those around you see your flaws and your doubts doesn't make you weak, it makes you human".

"The best thing is looking back and realizing how incredible life is. If you don't take the time to think about & analyze your life you'll never realize all the dots that are all connected."

Back in the day before the internet & street DVDs were prevalent, Queens emcee NORE recorded many moments with a videocamera. From the looks of this trailer to his new documentary he's captured many intimate moments with significant individuals in the music industry over the years. Be on the look out for the "What What" documentary. This makes me want to start pouring through the 100s of old videos & interviews I recorded from 90′-'98 as well. There's some brief nudity in this trailer that may Not Be Safe For Work.

"Nore was taping everything. We used to go around with this and just hit record, if we wanted an interview we made it happen. What What!"
