I Am Classic Hip Hop had the pleasure of following SMKA throughout the entire session and releases of The Hang Out. From the cyphering to the head-bobbing to the partying, these guys put work in. For 4 days, 80 artists got together and out of that came 20 songs.
Rappers rapped, Fort Knox yelled, and great music was made... like the ones you hear here. Be sure to check out all mixtapes from The Hang Out at SMKA's Bandcamp page
Fresh off his own debut reggae album's arrival on store shelves, Calvin Broadus is helping another emerging Island-pop artist get a leg-up in the game. On Good Luv, the Black Vibesa debut and latest feature from Elevate Music's Justin Anthony, Grammy-winning beatsmith Winston "Blackout" Thomas provides a brass-laced instrumental backdrop for verses dedicated to a special woman in the artist's life. Seeing as Anthony's got singing covered, Snoop reverts to rapping, contributing some Doggy-style flows on the front as well as ad-libs throughout the jam. The headliner's next album, produced entirely by Blackout, has yet to receive either a title or a solid drop date. Fans can, of course, stay tuned to Black Vibes for the latest on the forthcoming set.

Yesterday, family and friends gathered to mourn the passing of hip hop legend Chris Kelly of Kriss Kross fame.
Jermaine Dupri and Da Brat paid homage to their good friend by wearing their jeans and shorts backwards. ATLPics.net attended the funeral and was able to take several photos of the solemn event, also saying that Dupri looked visibly shaken.
The eulogy was delivered by Kriss Kross partner Chris Smith, who was overcome by emotion several times during his speech.
"My life ... it ain't ever gonna be the same, but I just hope our legacy for hip-hop is never forgotten," said "Daddy Mac." "I'm gonna do my part to make sure Chris' legacy will live on."
Kelly passed away on May 1 after being found unresponsive by his mother in his Atlanta home. He was 34..

Perhaps no group embodies the spirit of classic eighties Hip-Hop and R&B soul more than the iconic and unstoppable Force MD's. Anyone who has attended a Force MD's show knows that from the first words of "Tender Love" "Here I lay all alone...." The whole crowd is instantly unified, swaying arm in arm, passionately singing the soundtrack of their lives. The first few bars of timeless classified classics like "Love is a House", "Tears," or countless other hits can transform any arena into a nostalgic soul celebration in seconds. In addition to a surge of new tour dates and widespread industry buzz about the forthcoming feature length documentary Force MD's Relived, the group's momentum has also been fueled by a slew of recent celebrity endorsements. These range from President Obama's highly publicized acknowledgement that he keeps the Force MD's in rotation on Air Force One, to the growing roster of entertainers who cover the Force MD's songs in their show (including Wiz Khalifa, Alicia Keys, Marcia Ambrosius, New Edition, and others). As a result, the group is experiencing a new chapter in a long history of success. The group is most known for the overwhelming commercial success from the Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis-penned classic "Tender Love." The song proved to be huge success, peaking at #10 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart, remaining there for 19 weeks, and helping Jam & Lewis garner a Grammy Award for Producer of the Year. Incredibly, the group would follow this success in 1987 with their first #1 R&B/Hip-Hop staples including "Tears," "Here I go Again," "Let me Love You," and their continued release of new anthems for all occasions has allowed them to maintain a consistent presence at radio and in the hearts of their fans.

In accordance with the Hip Hop Declaration Of Peace; "Every Third week in May is Hip Hop Appreciation Week. During this time Hiphoppas are encouraged to honor their ancestors, reflect upon their cultural contributions and appreciate the elements and principles of Hip Hop Kulture." One of the goals of HHAW is to de-criminalize the images of Hip Hop culture that are presented to the world by the mainstream media. During HHAW, Hiphoppas are encouraged to amplify the good works we are doing in our communities through Hip Hop Kulture.
The International Hip Hop Council (IHHC) is honored to celebrate the 16th Hip Hop Appreciation Week (HHAW) May 12-19, 2012; Our theme for this year is LOVE! It is written that, "God is LOVE", as Hiphoppas, we know that LOVE is God! It was the LOVE of God manifested as HIPHOP, a Higher Infinite Power Healing Our People, that saved us from self-destruction and from our enemies! Hiphoppas must never forget that it was the LOVE of each other, the LOVE our elements and the LOVE of our culture that sustained US and our community many years before we got involved in the entertainment industry, who has NEVER shown us real LOVE!
Hiphoppas should use HHAW as a time to remember the LOVE of the original vision, meaning and purpose of Hip Hop Kulture in our daily lives! It was LOVE that allowed us to become Hiphoppas, re-create of ourselves with a higher consciousness that made us want to IMPROVE ourselves, empower our community and make POSITIVE social changes in the WORLD! Hiphoppas know that LOVE is the most powerful energy in the universe and now more than ever before than ever it's important for us to express LOVE to ourselves, to each other and all of humanity as often and in as many ways as possible!
It is written that you should, "LOVE God with all your heart, your soul and your mind and you should LOVE your neighbor as you LOVE yourself". During HHAW Hiphoppas should be examples of LOVE, proving that despite the challenges we may face, LOVE gives us the ability to go beyond our temporary needs, personal feelings, and emotions, so that together, we may experience a higher level of living! When properly understood, LOVE gives Hiphoppas an inner peace that will allow you to experience Hip Hop Kulture beyond entertainment!
