Jay-Z set Twitter on fire when he decided to send five tweets in a matter of four minutes Monday afternoon. Not one for social media, Jay-Z has only composed 46 tweets since November 2008 when he initially Joined Twitter.
Everyone from Complex Magazine to Diddy are calling these series of tweets a "rant." Compared to Kanye West's outbursts, I'm not sure if Jay's five tweets are worthy of such a distinction.
Signed with hashtags of the Holy Grail and New Rules, the five tweets signify his union with Samsung that was officially introduced Sunday night during Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Not to ever be outdone, Jay-Z - styled by June Ambrose, of course - debuted a Samsung Galaxy commercial with the legendary Rick Rubin, Swizz Beatz, Timabaland and Pharrell confined to one studio room producing beats to be heard on his new album. The new album Magna Carta Holy Grail will be available first to a million Samsung Galaxy users. Albeit as iconic as the gathering was, and as ingenious as the marketing scheme is, I only have one question: Where is Kanye West?
Setting personal friendships aside, Kanye West seems to be responsible for Jay-Z's resurgence and new sound on Blueprint. Of all of the things that Kanye West self-admittingly fights for, according to his recent NY Times interview, this should have been a priority. Was he asked and declined or was an invitation never sent his way? In any case, it leaves a looming question about the validity of Kanye's legacy as a producer which is often overshadowed by his career as a rapper.

Run The Jewels, the hip hop duo Killer Mike and El-P, Join the party of hip hop releases for the month of June as the prepare to release their Run the Jewels album. In the last few days, they announced that June 26th will be the release date for their upcoming album. In addition to the release date, we also have the artwork and track list for the project. After the two's pairing last year for Killer Mike's R.A.P. music, it should go without saying that a lot of hip hop heads are waiting to see what Killer Mike and El-P unleash next.
