BlackVibes.com Interviews... LaMarr Woodley (Super Bowl Champ!)

LaMarr WoodleyFresh off of his 2 sacks in SuperBowl 43, Pittsburgh Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley took some time to talk with a fellow Michigan Alum about the win, Coach Tomlin, and the current state of Michigan Football.

BlackVibes:

How does it feel to be Super Bowl champion?

Woodley: It feels great to have the opportunity to play in a Super Bowl and actually win it. A lot of people have played in this league and have never had an opportunity to win a Super Bowl. That's the ultimate goal when you play in this sport.

BlackVibes:

What were your thoughts when Fitzgerald scored the touchdown with under 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter?

Woodley: I was rushing in and once he threw the ball, I'd looked back and saw Fitzgerald take off. Once they scored, I knew it was up to our offense to go in there and take care of business. They've been in that situation before and they came back and won the game. That's something we work on in practice -- the 2-minute drill. I definitely had confidence in our offense moving the ball down the field and putting points on the board.

BlackVibes:

You had 2 sacks in the Super Bowl and you've had 2 sacks in all 4 playoffs games that you've played in your career. What is it about the big games that gets you to elevate your play?

Woodley: It's win or go home. When you get this close, you've got to give it your all because you don't want to sit back wondering what I could have done better to help my team go out there and win. I was out there giving my all and my teammates were putting me in position to make plays.

BlackVibes:

How about your friend Steve Breaston. How much conversation did you have with him before the Super Bowl and have you talked to him since Sunday?

Woodley: When we first got down to Tampa, me and Breaston went out. We did a little talking, not really about football. That's my homeboy. We definitely hang out a lot. We hung out a lot at Michigan. We just got done texting a little bit over AIM. We always conversate. I ain't gonna rub it in his face yet. I gotta let him calm down a little bit. I might get him about 2 or 3 week from now.

BlackVibes:

What's it like playing for Coach Mike Tomlin? I heard that he's used motivational techniques that include referencing movies like Boyz 'N The Hood.

Coach Mike TomlinWoodley: The thing about Coach Tomlin is you can definitely tell that he's an honest person. He's one of those guys that you want to play for. He's calm and cool. He comes into the meeting rooms and he keeps everything simple. He doesn't get mad that much. On game day, he's always on the sideline fired up. You would think he's one of the players the way he's acting on the sideline. When you've got a coach like that, you want to go out there and play and win for him that much more.

BlackVibes:

There's a rumor that Larry Foote wants to finish his career with the Lions. Then, he wants to go back home to Detroit and coach at Pershing (High School). What do you know about that?

Woodley: I ain't really heard anything about that. I think Larry's happy here. I know he's a big Lions fan, but he started his career here and I think he wants to end career here. You always want to end your career where you started.

What are your thoughts on the current state of Michigan Football and Rich Rodriguez?

Woodley: Anybody who understands football knows that we lost a lot guys on offense. We lost Chad Henne. We lost Mike Hart. We lost both of our receivers. Jake Long went in the first round. Two or three offensive lineman quit. It's definitely hard to build an offense like that when you lose all of your main guys. He came in with a new offense and he didn't have the correct guys to run the offense. It was just a down year, but I definitely believe Coach Rodriguez is a good coach and he's definitely going to turn that program around.

Who are some of your favorite artists? Do you listen to anyone in particular to get you hyped for the game?

DJ Drama and Young Jeezy
Woodley: I like a lot of down south music. I listen to a lot of Webbie. I like Boosie. I listen to a lot of DJ Drama and Young Jeezy. I listen to Lil Wayne. Like I said, I'm a down south guy. I give the East Coast some love here and there.
