Ballerific Travel: Delta Air Lines to Offer Free Wi-Fi to All Passengers

The days you're bored on a Delta flight will soon be gone. That's because the airline just announced that it's rolling out free Wi-Fi to all passengers through a partnership with T-Mobile. While the wireless carrier already offers free Wi-Fi on Delta flights to its customers, this new program will expand to everyone aboard regardless of whether they're T-Mobile customers.

"It's going to be free, it's going to be fast and its going to be available for everyone," Delta CEO Ed Bastian said Thursday at Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Starting Feb. 1, Delta will begin rolling out what they describe as the "best-in-class in-flight connectivity" to domestic flights. More than 500 of the airline's planes will be ready for free Wi-Fi at launch. By the end of 2023, the airline says the service should be available on more than 700 planes and the company plans to add international and regional aircraft in 2024.

"We didn't just want free Wi-Fi to offer base-level service - we wanted it to be transformative for the entire onboard experience," Bastian said in a statement. "It is imperative all customers onboard can enjoy their favorite content just as they would at home, and we've put this system through meticulous tests to make that possible."

Passengers need to be a member of Delta's free SkyMiles loyalty program to access the free Wi-Fi.
