Big Sean Pens Massive Open Letter About His G.O.O.D. Deed: "Major Boss Up!"
G.O.O.D. Music's Big Sean isn't relying on press releases and websites to get his message out. The hip-hop star has come forward to speak on the importance of getting a movie theater into Detroit.
Sean Don went to Instagram this week to explain his ground-breaking decision to put a theater in Motown and giving locals a chance to see a flick without having to venture outside the city.
There Literally is NOT ONE MOVIE THEATRE IN THE CITY OF DETROIT THAT PLAYS NEW MOVIES, ONLY IN THE SUBURBS!!! Yesterday we took 1,000 kids from a Detroit Public Schools and took them to see Black Panther as a field trip. I think it’s important they see super heroes of all shades and that look like most of them, and support it. I also took that time yesterday to announce I will be opening my own Movie Theatre in the City of Detroit (The Sean Anderson theatre by Emagine @emaginetheatres) because I wanted to show the city and Detroit Public Schools that a kid from DPS that’s the same color as most of them can be a owner and a CEO too and open big business in uncharted territory! This is huge for my city! I wanted to show them face to face that I am opening a theatre just like the one they are sitting in, so they can see Black people being strong and independent and powerful, on and off the screen. I wanted to truly explain how important this is, because the Press releases n sites weren’t understanding the importance of this theatre! THERE CURRENTLY IS NO MOVIE THEATRE IN THE DETROIT THAT PLAYS CURRENT MOVIES. Its overdue for change! MAJOR BOSS UP!

A couple days ago, Sean held a press conference to go over his new business plan and describe the need to bring a theater to Motor City.
The Detroit rapper formally announced plans for his Sean Anderson Theatre at a press event at Emagine Royal Oak on Wednesday morning. The 10-12 screen theater, a partnership with Emagine Entertainment, is expected to open in Detroit in 2020. A location for the theater, which will also house an intimate, “up close and personal” performance venue and aims to host community events, comedy shows and other functions, is not finalized, though the rapper said it will be “in the heart of the city.” (Detroit News)
Emagine Entertainment CEO Anthony LaVerde has also dished on partnering up with the hip-hop star.
"Sean and his team reached out to us about six months ago, discussing Sean's vision for a theater in Downtown Detroit and his desire to give back to the community, and really be a part of the Detroit renaissance," LaVerde said. "This was his vision in how he can accomplish that." Emagine has land in Detroit's Midtown area, which co-founder Paul Glantz also sought as a potential site in the preliminary stages of the proposal. (M Live)
