In 2016, Bow Wow found himself entrenched in controversy after he was asked about who he planned on voting for: Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump? The rapper stated at the time that he'd decided to stay out of politics and when told that his ancestors died for his right to vote, things became interesting. He began to explain that he's of mixed heritage so things were different for him, and went on to tweet, "Yeah I seen SELMA... Was I related to anyone no. [I'm] saying my moss side of family is NOT BLACK. Heritage different."To another person, Bow Wow said, "People want me to fight the power, I'm just not with all that. It's not me."
It seems that the father and reality star has had a change of heart In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Bow Wow said that his previous comments were "misconstrued" and admitted that his outlook has changed. "This is the first time I've been affected by anything that's happened in our nation," he said. "It made me want to get out and get involved."

"By me looking out the window and seeing all races, all colors, protesting, marching for the cause, I felt like, 'Yo, I gotta get down there and walk with them.' That's what I did. It's right in front of me... something has affected me here in our country," said Bow Wow. "I got a nine-year-old daughter that I'm raising during this crazy time, asking Dad questions, and I'm making sure I got the answers. You get the answers by getting out there, getting active, watching the news... For me, that's been the biggest change."
He added that he speaks with his daughter, Shai, regularly about what's going on in the world. "I was younger, self-centered and didn't know all the facts. I'm 33 years old now. It's time to change," he said. "My little girl thinks police are bad. I don't know at the time if she saw a movie or where it came from, but she's definitely aware. She's watching movies, she's digging up on her history. She just played Harriet Tubman in her school play right before the pandemic... so she's very aware what's going on with Black Lives Matter and what it means."
