BREAKING: Nicki Minaj's Brother Found Guilty In Child Rape Case, Faces Life In Prison
New York rapper Nicki Minaj's brother couldn't win over the jury in his publicized child rape case. New reports claim Jelani Maraj has been found guilty and faces life behind bars.
According to reports, a jury announced its decision Thursday (November 9) and Melani will receive his sentence next month.
The verdict for Jelani Maraj came in Thursday in Long Island ... he was found guilty of predatory sexual assault against a child and endangering the welfare of a child. He faces 25 years to life in prison. He'll be sentenced on December 14. Nassau County D.A. Madeline Singas tells TMZ ... "We hope that today's verdict will help the family in the healing process." Earlier this month, Nicki and Jelani's mom testified in the publicized court battle.
The defendant's mother, Carol Maraj, 57, of Old Westbury, testified the alleged victim's mother, who was then her daughter-in-law, made the comment she perceived as an extortion threat while driving her to a Hempstead court so she could try to see her son after his Dec. 1, 2015, arrest. "She said to me, 'It's gonna take lots of money to get out of this one,' " said the witness, who said she runs a foundation to benefit domestic violence victims and is a songwriter and playwright. Last month, a report emerged about Nicki not taking the stand in her brother's case.
Sources close to Nicki tell TMZ ... she won't be involved in any way in Jelani Maraj's Long Island court case, where he stands accused of raping an 11-year-old girl - his stepdaughter at the time. We're told Minaj never planned to take the stand, and her bro's legal team telling news outlets she was on their witness list was simply false. There were reports Nicki would testify the alleged victim's mom tried to extort her for millions. (TMZ)
According to reports, a 10-year-old initially testified in Maraj's case.
A 10-year-old boy who walked in on the alleged rape of his sister by the brother of rap star Nicki Minaj knew what he witnessed "wasn't right" - but was threatened to keep his mouth shut, jurors heard Monday. He detailed what he saw in a basement bedroom in 2015 - as his family members quietly wept in the gallery. (Page Six)
