This week, McGregor issued a public statement and promise about returning to the UFC to fight again after nearly a two-year absence.

I am fighting again. Period. I am the best at this. I put my name forward to step in at UFC 222 to face Frankie Edgar when Max Holloway pulled out, but I was told there wasn't enough time to generate the money that the UFC would need. I was excited about bouncing in last minute and taking out the final featherweight, without all the rest of the stuff that comes with this game. Please respect the insane amount of work outside the fight game that I have put in. On top of the fighting. I am here. It is on them to come and get me. Because I am here. Yours sincerely, The Champ Champ™

Heading into the weekend, UFC head Dana White updated fans interested in McGregor and boxing icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. possibly facing off again.

"The only way a rematch makes sense in that fight is in the UFC," White says. He also confirms the two sides are talking. White says he doesn't think Floyd needs the money - but if he's serious about an MMA fight against one of the baddest combat sports athletes on the planet ... "he absolutely should be worried about his skills." White insists there is NO deal done right now - but says, "Anything is possible." (TMZ)

Recently, Conor went to his Instagram page and appeared to suggest Floyd would never fight in the UFC.

I am happy for Floyd and his recent announcement that he is out of these current fight negotiations. It is the reason I never seeked the rematch in the first place. I was happy for him in retirement. My game is a very unforgiving one. It is not like other games. I understand completely him staying retired. I will now carry on in my negotiations and see where it goes. Have a great retirement Junior. Now come here and give your old man a hug for old times sake. I'm proud of you son. Yours truly, Senior.
