JAY-Z's 4:44 Edges 21 Savage's ISSA Album Sales, Opening Week Numbers Revealed
Music mogul JAY-Z has plenty of reasons to celebrate. The hip-hop veteran's new 4:44 album reigned supreme against its retail competition this week selling nearly 300,000 copies.
According to reports, Young Hov easily edged 21 Savage's long-awaited ISSA debut release.
Following a one-week Tidal exclusive, Jay-Z's 4:44 became available to purchase, as well as stream at most major DSPs-with the exception of Spotify, whose free tier took them out of the game. That said, the Roc Nation set has gone #1 on HITS' Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart, moving 278k units this week. Recently, rap veteran Busta Rhymes and NBA champion Matt Barnes co-signed JAY's new 4:44 album.
Heading into last weekend, 4:44's initial sales projections surfaced.
After mounted anticipation, JAY's 4:44 finally arrived this week on major retail outlets like iTunes and Amazon.
Both Apple Music and Amazon Music Unlimited announced tonight they would be streaming the album beginning at midnight on 7/7. The music video for "The Story of O.J." is also available on both services, as well as on YouTube. Universal Music confirmed that physical copies of the 4:44 album would include three additional bonus tracks, "Adnis," "Blue's Freestyle/We Family" and "ManyFacedGod," which reportedly features U.K. R&B singer James Blake. CDs will be available via Amazon beginning 7/7. (HITS Daily Double)
