Kodak Black's Team Have High Hopes After "Shocking" Judge Comments Lead To Unexpected Twist
Florida rapper Kodak Black is hoping for some true justice. The hip-hop star's legal team is pulling for a better outcome after a new judge takes over his weapons and drugs case.
According to reports, Black's initial judge received walking papers after allegedly joking about suspects' bonds changing depending on their locations.
Broward County senior Judge Joel Lazarus accidentally spoke into a hot microphone over a live internet broadcast January 19 while preparing for first appearance hearings and told a prosecutor that he would “double the bond to those that take place in my neighborhood.” He then elaborated and said, “Closer to my house, the higher the bond. That was always the Lazarus rule.” He later claimed to be joking, but the Broward County Chief Judge barred Lazarus from presiding over first appearance court in the future, and also from anything involving criminal court over the “clearly inappropriate” statement. KB's legal team has since addressed the comments which ultimately forced open a temporary judge vacancy.
We spoke to Kodak’s legal team who say the comments are “shocking” and “highly inappropriate.” Kodak currently remains in Broward County jail on 7 charges, including a parole violation, but his legal team says this was a first appearance hearing and any issues with his bond will be discussed with the current judge in his case. They feel a second go around will at least provide them with a fair chance. (The Blast)
Last month, details emerged about why Black had a run-in with cops.
Records show the 20-year-old rapper is facing charges of grand theft of a firearm, possession of marijuana, child neglect, two counts of possession of a weapon by a felon and two counts of probation violation. Octave, who has 5 million followers on Instagram and regularly shares videos and pictures of his son, was being held at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale Friday. (Local 10 News)
Initially, footage emerged from Kodak Black's Instagram Live stream during the police raid.
