Maxwell Tells Us His Secret To Pulling Off Unforgettable Tour Stops: "I'm Here In Your City"
[With the Summers Tour '17 heating up cities across the nation, headliner Maxwell tells SOHH about his unique approach to every venue he blesses.]
It all depends on where I'm at and performing when it comes to what I take and give to audiences. If I'm in Augusta, Georgia, you know where James Brown's from, the music is going to come out real loud when the lights go down.
It always depends on where I'm going to, the local hero of that area is usually who I look forward to starting things off with. I think that's why the shows we did in the summer last year, when we were promoting the album, were so special.
With all of the political unrest we're experiencing or things like Prince passing away and Muhammad Ali, all these great iconic figures in African American history that are not with us anymore, I had an opportunity to send our condolences through the shows and also give people a good time.
I give them a sense of where I'm at. I'm here in your city, I know the people you love, I know the details. I try to get as involved as I can. I want people to know I'm not just a kid from Brooklyn, New York City.
I'm always going to be Brooklyn but I want them to understand that I know who I'm performing to and where I'm at.
I'm always grateful. I'm always excited about getting to go on and perform.
I just want to take full advantage of the blessing that's been given to me and create opportunities for others like myself.
