On Thursday (July 13), Tax pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
Taxstone, whose legal name is Daryl Campbell, was charged with second degree murder for the fatal shooting of Ronald McPhatter, 33, during a May 25, 2016, confrontation between Taxstone and Troy Ave, the Crown Heights rapper who sometimes hired McPhatter as a bodyguard, prosecutors said. He pleaded not guilty during a Thursday afternoon hearing. (DNA Info)
One of Tax's legal representatives has since stepped forward to speak out on the situation.
A lawyer for Taxstone sent this response to Billboard after Thursday's indictment: "We intend to fight these charges and he maintains his innocence." (Billboard)
Troy Ave fell victim to the now-infamous New York City concert shooting.
Rapper Troy Ave, who was shot in the leg at Irving Plaza, was indicted last summer on one count of attempted second degree murder and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon in relation to the incident. Taxstone and Troy Ave had been engaged in a public feud in the months prior to the shooting. Troy Ave sued Irving Plaza and Live Nation for "the lack of security they provided the night of the incident." In September, two concert attendees also sued Live Nation after being "trampled" the night of the shooting. (Pitchfork)
