With Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 Out, A$AP Rocky Puts Deadline On Third Solo Album
A$AP Mob boss A$AP Rocky knows fans are still aching for a full-length solo release. The New York native has promised to deliver a new studio release before 2018 arrives.
In a new interview, Rocky said fans could expect his long-awaited follow-up to 2015's A.L.L.A LP.
"A.S.A.P. It's about to drop. [Before the year's over?] Yeah, for sure. For sure. [A.L.L.A] was ahead of its time. That was abnormal then, but in the near future, now in the present, it's going to be normal, trust me." (Complex)
Based on early estimates, A$AP Mob's new Cozy Tapes Vol. 2 is expected to easily land on this week's sales chart.
Earlier this year, A$AP Rocky revealed his interest in recording new music overseas.
So when, exactly, is the new music coming out? "ASAP, no pun intended. The 'Cozy Tapes' stuff [the album from his hip-hop collective A$AP Mob] is coming out first." On Jan. 27 via Twitter, Mayers previewed a track called "Please Don't Touch My Raf." "You know, like Raf Simons. It's a popular hashtag," he noted of the title. For now, he remains in London recording. "It feels like home to me and it's not too far from New York. Then I'm off to Hawaii and a few other places to record, and to Japan to get inspired." (WWD)
A few months ago, A$AP Rocky joined forces with MTV with a multi-year executive deal.
"I think we need to get people more in tune with vignettes, video clips," the musician said in an interview. "That's really going to be my strong suit." MTV has signed A$AP Rocky to a two-year deal under which he will devise original concepts, experiment with programming and various pieces of MTV intellectual property, and develop content for advertisers. He and his company, AWGE, will form a venture called MTV Labs, billed as a "creative incubator" unit. (Variety)
