BMW Recalling 1 million Vehicles In North America

Major news broke this morning (Nov. 3) from BMW AG and it is not good for the company. The Germany-based car company is recalling 1 million vehicles in North America. The recall is due to two separate issues that cause five risks. While the recall is strictly for North America, they may extend the recall to other regions in the future.

The first of the recalls cover 670,000 BMW 3-Series vehicles sold in the U.S. for model years 2006-2011. These vehicles may have a wiring issue in the heating and air conditioning system. This issue can cause the vehicles to overheat which raise the risk of the car catching fire.

The second recall covers 740,000 BMWs sold in the US for model years 2007-2011. These vehicles have a valve heater that could rust and lead to a fire in rare cases. The recall includes some 128i vehicles, 3-Series, 5-Series and X3, X5 and Z4 vehicles.

BMW said both recalls followed recent meetings with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
