SHERMAN HEMSLEY Dead At Age 74

Sherman Hemsley passed away Tuesday in El Paso, Texas.

The television star rose to national fame with his starring role as George Jefferson on "The Jeffersons."

Born on Feb. 1, 1938 in Philadelphia Pa., Hemsley became an actor after serving in the air force.

Hemsley and co-star Isabel Sanford's iconic characters debuted on "All in the Family" before receiving their own sitcom, which turned Hemsley into a television icon.

Hemsley was 74 years old.
