Becoming A Mother At 20

Becoming A Mother At 20

Becoming a mother at 20 wasn't something I planned. Like I told you guys in my last blog I wanted to have my first child at 25, but life happens. Do I regret being a mother at a young age? Nope! In fact I truly believe being a mother at 20 allowed me to be the woman I am today.
Being so young I didn't get the chance to explore certain things like other people who was my age, because I was busy trying to create a good life for my child. When being a mother well let's say (a good mother) your whole mindset change. You now know it's not about you it's about the child, and you now have to make sacrifices in order for your child to have a good life. Some of those sacrifices may cause you to lose friends, not have too much fun, lack of sleep, etc. You may even go through many emotions because your main focus is being a great mother.

My Experience: Becoming a Mother At 20 wasn't hard for me. One of the main reasons was due to my support system. I don't know how I would have survived if it wasn't for my family and my daughter's family. My aunt was a day care provider so daycare wasn't an issue. I ended up going back to college and my daughter was the reason. The only negative thing I have to say about my experience was the lack of support I was receiving from her father. I get it... we was young so neither of us knew off the back how to really be a parent, but that's the beauty of it, you learn to know and it's always room for improvement.
Being a mother at 20 wasn't hard for me however, I don't recommend it to anyone. I always tell young people, even older people with no kids to make sure you're married! Just be careful who you have that child with. Guys can talk a good game and can leave you and that baby right in the dust. Women can do the same. Believe it or not but women can be awful mothers as well.

So my advice will be to actually be in a relationship with that person, get to know them and their family, discuss marriage if that's something you both want, and don't rush pregnancy. Make sure you are ready because having a child is no joke, and it's not cheap.
