Colin Kaepernick's Skin Was Darkened in Recent Republican Email
New accusations of race-baiting from the Republican Party against NFL-star-turned-activist Colin Kaepernick have surfaced. The party in support of Donald Trump is reportedly still reeling over Colin's influence in Nike pulling their Betsy Ross flag Independence Day sneakers from the market. This version of the flag doesn't represents the country at a time where slavery was still in place.
In alleged retaliation, the NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee) sent out an email to their supporters that advertised a coffee mug with a picture of the Betsy Ross flag on it for donations to the organization. Also included in the email was a photo of Colin Kaepernick, which some suggested was darkened.
The email's message asked:
"WHO DO YOU STAND WITH? DONALD TRUMP AND THE BETSY ROSS FLAG OR ANTI-AMERICAN FLAG COLIN KAEPERNICK?"
NRCC communications director Chris Pack insists this wasn't the case:
"The photo was not darkened."
However, this isn't the first time Republican ads have been accused of darkening the skin of African Americans. In 2015, a study was compiled showing how often former President Barack Obama's skin was consistently darkened while his Republican opponents' skin was visibly lightened in contrast.
An anonymous Democrat commented on the email:
"[It's] disgusting...House Republicans are running on racism, plain and simple. It's disgusting, it's offensive and it should be fireable, but there's no accountability in the Republican Party."
What are your thoughts about the email and photo of Colin? Let us know in the comments.
