Following Michael K. Williams' death, a seven-year-old interview has resurfaced showing co-star Wendell Pierce praising the actor for his noteworthy roles.
Yesterday (Monday, Sept. 6th), actor Michael K. Williams, 54, was found dead in his Brooklyn, New York apartment. No official cause of death has been revealed, and authorities are reportedly investigating the incident as a suspected drug overdose.
In the wake of Michael K. Williams' passing, a 2014 interview featuring him and Wendell Pierce has resurfaced and gone viral. The two actors notably starred in The Wire, a crime drama that aired from on HBO from 2002-2008. In the series, Michael K. Williams plays Omar Little, a gay stick-up man in Baltimore, while Wendell Pierce plays the role of Detective Bunk Moreland.
In the resurfaced video, Wendell Pierce praises Michael K. Williams for his role as Omar Little, as well as his role as Chalky White in Boardwalk Empire. He said:
"Michael has contributed two of the most iconic characters in the history of American television with Omar and with Chalky White. What we are actually getting to witness in his young career, we're gonna see a lot more, he is one of the great American actors giving voice and giving flesh to characters that most people would've never given the same humanity to. Opening a window to a world of men that we pass by or don't know about. It's one of the most innovative portrayals on television in our generation, and it was an honor for me to even share the screen with him."
Wendell Pierce continued:
"One of my greatest moments I've ever had in my career was the scenes that I did with Michael. He's a very special man, very special artist-but an artist to the community [for taking us to] a place where we reflect on who we are. He has opened up a window of reflection to people who may pass people on the corner that they would've never given humanity to. He has made people think twice and give humanity to these men, and that's classic American television history right there, Michael K. Williams."
