"Lights, Music, Action! Indie Emcee HooNoz Releases His New Album "FWM" And It's A Movie
HooNoz (pronounced Who-Knows) has made a career of being underground as well as the underdog. But lyrically and creatively, with each release, it's hard to count him out. From his vocal presence, to his work ethic, to the moves he makes independently, his career is hard to compare to those with out the backing of the industry.
Bringing us here today. HooNoz has recently released his new project "FWM," Which is an abbreviation for "Films, Weed, Music," apparently, the favorite past times of this recording artist. The 13 song project immediately shows his growth as an artist. The way that the album comes together gave almost a scripted feeling. Telling a story while showing the different interests of HooNoz himself. Blending a mixture of sounds we get hip hop, gangster rap, chop and chill vibes as each song goes from one to the next. Giving the soul and its chakras a roller coaster ride of emotion, and the listeners a feeling of fulfillment of originality..
Almost every song is titled after a movie, with clips of the movie being used as a hook, or into/outro. Paying homage to classic urban films like Juice, Fresh, Paid in Full, and Ghost Dog, and even cult following throwbacks like They Live and The Twilight Zone, Hoo tears through each instrumental with a delivery that makes you feel you are in the drivers seat of his thoughts and goals.
There are a few that stand out, as with most projects. His album starter "Hustle and Flow," tackles a variety of topics from Presidential pointless-ness to touching on the fact (and I quote) "I started at the bottom and did every single thing I said that I would," and from where we sit...yes he has. Picking accurate parts of the movie to sample, the beginning has the perfect build up, the middle bridge gives an anxious climax, with the last sample ending it all out satisfyingly with a "f**k with me Djay." There's a brilliance in that production wise, that should be recognized.
Another favorite that is gaining a lot of attention is the song titled "WY MI" which is apparently an abbreviation for "What You Make It" which we all know is a reference for success. As the track starts HooNoz gives shout outs to neighborhoods he called home. Then goes into a twist style explanation of the dream chase, the come up, the haters, fake friends, the focus, support and the success. Once you get past the excitement of the sound and the bars being thrown out, you begin to see this single had a lot of thought put into the production.
As did the entire album. Delivered like a movie to music, complete with an intermission, cameos from all of the Harvey Finch Enterprise label mates, down to what felt like a bonus scene with a major appearance from the Independent Boss himself, Master P, the content of this project screams "2021 Hit" and "Hip Hop Milestone." HooNoz gave a catalog most listeners can enjoy from A-Z.
And it is available now for streaming, exclusively on the Audiomack website and platform. Check out a project that's helping us hold up the State of Hip Hop music.
