More About Urban Punk
"I've been exploring the acting side of entertainment for the last 5 years," said LaToya, "and I've grown so much as a performer. An unseen part of me emerges when I’m onstage with Urban Punk. I can't wait to share it with the world!”
LaToya, one of the "Three Divas" along with Fantasia Barrino and
Jennifer Hudson on American Idol, released her first solo album on Peak Records, which debuted in the Billboard Top 100, and joined Oprah Winfrey's Broadway adaptation of "The Color Purple" as Nettie, garnering rave reviews for her performance.
H2O has worked with everyone from Mix Master Mike to Bruno Mars and has released two solo albums, including a track featuring Fergie. He has worked closely with Grammy Award-winning producer Keith Harris, drummer/producer of the Black Eyed Peas. He formed the group Prototype that went on tour with the Black Eyed Peas and went on to complete a successful solo tour with Sergio Mendes.
"I'm excited to work with LaToya," said H2O "She inspires me, and
inspires others with her raw talent... together we are bringing an
energy that is unmatched. Get ready to be moved!"
Urban Punk was founded at a pivotal point in its members' careers.
While H was reforming his group, London was developing a new vocal
style and recording a second album that would push her soulful sound beyond the boundaries of genre. Having known and worked with each other for years, H suggested London collaborate with him to create innovative music. They added a DJ into the mix, and Urban Punk was born.
H2O named the fusion "Urban Punk." He challenges the group to push the envelope beyond the style and genre trappings of modern music. Their witty and unpredictable lyrics, textured vocal melodies, and
infectious beats and rhythms make Urban Punk a group that is
simultaneously hard to classify and uniquely addictive.
Along with touring internationally and delving into TV and film, Urban Punk will dedicate themselves to encouraging youth to "UP" their community through positive music and programs by launching a program called U.P. While quenching their insatiable appetite for creativity, Urban Punk hopes to make a mark in the global community.
