It is with deepest appreciation that I extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude for the assistance you have provided Rev. Gardner over the past several weeks. Thanks to your efforts, Rev. Sean P. Gardner became an official candidate for City Council! None of this would have been possible without your time and belief in his ability to make the change needed in District 8. It was Rev. Gardner's full intend to serve the needs and desires of the community and his supporters. However, the voters decided on the incumbent. Rev. Gardner will not be your politic official at this time but Your work on his campaign is greatly appreciated. You showed that we wanted to be a part of making the difference between maintaining the status quo and realizing a positive change through community empowerment. Let's ALL be excited about the future! We ALL genuinely fought together to present the constituents of District 8 with a prosperous solution and Rev. Gardner has gained name recognition, supporters, and a voice that can continue to represent the interest of the constituents. When I realized how AIDS/HIV was impacting our community, I became involved in prevention, education, and counseling. Teen counseling and the prevention of teen pregnancy are also parts of my ministry, as was providing a food pantry for those in need. I have never turned away from my responsibilities. I see my community as part of my larger, extended family and will always work for the well being of my fellow New Yorkers, be it as a private citizen, a minister, or as an elected official.

Monday, September 10th, 2013. Believe it or not, my first major accomplishment was to simply grow up in this community and not become a statistic. I joined the military, and later after my initial service, I joined the police force and became a detective. My belief system and sense of right and wrong never deterred me from working for the citizens of my community. I have always been an activist. I view social responsibility as part of my life and my ministry. Remember to vote for Sean Gardner tomorrow!

After-school programs must be in every school and neighborhood in our city. As far as personally engaging youth in the community, I plan to walk and talk among the people as I always have done. I will not isolate myself from my constituents. Your problems are my problems and whether elected or not, I will continue to work tirelessly to alleviate poverty and homelessness in East Harlem and the South Bronx. Vote Tuesday!

(September 7th) Gangs and ethnic violence have existed in our community since the mid-forties. The difference was that guns were not prolific and so easy to come by. First, we need to engage our youth by eliminating the need or desire to be a part of a gang. I believe that both family and faith, no matter what your faith may be, play an integral role in raising the standards of integrity and a sense of justice and fairness for every individual. This comes from strengthening family values, which you know as a minister, I foster every day. VOTE TUESDAY September 10th. the most important election for New York City in a long time!

I believe city government needs to be proactive in creating tax incentives for employers who hire unemployed and under-employed youths and adults and keep them employed long-term. At the same time we need to ensure that our schools are preparing young people for the 21st Century work world. I support our city government working with both teachers and parents to create better teaching and learning environments for our youth.Remember to vote This Tuesday at your local polling place. NEW TOOL FOR POVERTY RESEARCHERS NOW AVAILABLE ON CEO'S WEBSITE The Center for Economic Opportunity's (CEO) Poverty Research Team has created a set of data files for researchers who wish to replicate or extend CEO's work in new directions. Each file consists of all the variables included in the annual American Community Survey Public Use Micro Sample for New York City, along with variables that CEO creates for its New York City Poverty Measure. The files, along with documentation, can now be found at: http://www.nyc.gov/html/ceo/html/poverty_research/research_files.shtml. We hope that the files will encourage researchers to incorporate the CEO Poverty Measure into their work. CEO should be cited as the source of all incorporated data. "American Community Survey Public Use Micro Sample as augmented by CEO" is how these data sets are referenced in CEO publications. Sean Gardner For New York City Council - District 8 Rev. Dr. Sean P. Gardner is the Senior Pastor and Chief Executive Officer of the East Ward Missionary Baptist Church, located in the Village of East Harlem, New York. Dr. Gardner has not only been the senior pastor of the East Ward Missionary Baptist Church for the last 20 years; but has also completed a 20-year career in the New York City Police Department as the rank of Detective. Dr. Gardner decided to trade in his uniform and preaching robe when the residents of the 8th District NYC Council expressed ongoing concerns to him within their communities, and decided to run for the New York City Council. Dr. Gardner represents and serves one of the most vibrant and wonderfully diverse districts in all of New York City, covering sections of the neighborhoods of El Barrio / East Harlem. As a Pastor in East Harlem, Dr. Gardner became well-known to residents within the community as a tireless and thoughtful advocate for the people and communities he served, and he earned widespread praise for serving in positive and innovative programs dealing with several issues ranging from conflict resolution to child abuse prevention; and combating youth gang influences and drug abuse such as the Harlem Youth Marines Inc. which has served the youth of Harlem for over three decades; serving as their Chaplain and Chairman of the board. Work Progress Program Application Now Open As part of the Young Men's Initiative, CEO in partnership with NYC Human Resources Administration is seeking qualified youth service providers to deliver a new cycle of the Work Progress Program (WPP)-a subsidized wage program designed to provide low-income young adults with work experience and promote community goals. The original WPP pilot in spring 2012 selected 17 youth service providers across the five boroughs and served over 300 participants.
