Raven Sorvino was born as Anna Maria Pink on July 12th in Upland, CA, but only lived there a short time, as her family relocated to Richmond, TX, 20 miles outside of Houston. Anna enjoyed her childhood growing up as a southern girl. A few years later, Anna’s parents were divorced and Anna moved back to Los Angeles. When Anna was a teenager, she attended North Hollywood High School. Anna was always fascinated with performing arts, and while in high school, joined the drama program that her school offered. It was during her time at North Hollywood High where Anna discovered her innate ability to write lyrics for hip hop music. Anna Pink gave birth to Kid Raven, her MC alias, which later matured into what she is today… Raven Sorvino.

As Raven practiced her craft of lyricism and flow, she was greatly influenced by MC Lyte, Eric B & Rakim, Queen Latifah, Notorious BIG , 2 Pac, LL Cool J, NWA ,Foxy Brown , LiL Kim , and more. While struggling to be taken serious as a solo female hip hop emcee (due to the fact her lyrics doesn’t contain selling drugs, sex and violence, which is the norm in hip hop), Raven developed her own style.

Raven continued her career by signing a management deal with Icon Entertainment. Icon Entertainment was owned by the hottest club promoters in Hollywood during that time. One of the promoters, Phillip Darrell, was so connected with the A-list crowd, that he actually took a bullet for Suge Knight of Death Row Records at the Roxbury Club on Sunset Blvd. She was in the thick of the hip hop community’s finest, opening up for acts such as Nelly, KRS-1, Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Xzibit, and Cam-ron. And Slim Shady (Eminem)

Later in Raven’s career, she was discovered by Dr. Dre’s protégé Melman. Melman introduced her to Dr. Dre, where she sparked the interest of Dre and his Aftermath Label. Unfortunately, Jimmy Iovine asked Dre to stop all current deals with new artists and to take a look at this white rapper from Detroit. Aftermath went forward with Eminem leaving Raven to press onward to find her success she has worked so hard for.

After the Aftermath negotiations, another window of opportunity opened for Raven. A music mogul by the name of Puff Daddy heard about Raven and asked her to rap for him in his Los Angles Hotel room at the Four Season. He was blown away by her ability and raw talent. He wasn’t the only one that was in the room that was blown away either. Puff Daddy’s closest friend The Notorious BIG was in the other room and heard Raven and came out to see who was rapping. He told her that she has some fire. Again because of unfortunate events, Due to Management conflict Things fell threw.

Raven sparks the interest from Dougie D (A&R for The Game). At this time Dougie D was the A&R for Mike Tyson’s record label affiliated with Def Jam. During her time with Mike Tyson and Dougie D, she also impressed Tyson’s partner Jimmy Henchman and brought Raven to New York City to record in his Manhattan studio. As this was going on, Mike Tyson was not happy with Def Jam and their scheduled release dates for Tyson’s label, and threw out all the record deals he had, including Raven’s. Again Raven needed to look elsewhere for her dream.

Raven continued to preserver with her career. She found Rickey Bell from New Edition and was featured on his solo project. Raven then moved over to Randy Jackson (A &R for Mariah Carey, American Idol Judge) and worked for MCA Recording Group’s Jersey Ave. At the time she also was working with Ray J on an after school special, and made some TV appearances.
