 Will and Jaden Smith
Will Smith will co-star with his son Jaden Smith in a futuristic sci-fi adventure, as yet untitled. Will Smith's own production company, Overbrook Entertainment, will produce the film in partnership with M. Night Shyamalan and it will be released through Columbia pictures.
Overbrook Entertainment was started by Will between 1997 and 1999 and is based in Beverly Hills. Overbrook's co-founders, Ken Stovitz and James Lassiter will also be involved in the film's production.
It's an unusual and unique arrangement for Shyamalan, who always likes to maintain complete control over the production of any movie he's involved with. Shyamalan said, "The chance to make a scary science-fiction film starring Jaden and Will is my dream project."
Not many details have been released about the film's plot, but it's rumored to resemble a cross between Smith's I Am Legend (2007) and The Road (2009), which starred Viggo Mortensen. It will be set 1000 years in the future and chronicles a young boy's attempts to find and rescue his estranged father on an abandoned planet Earth, after their ship crashes.
Doug Belgrade, president of Columbia Pictures said, "Night is an outstanding filmmaker who has a tremendous vision for this science-fiction adventure story, and we couldn't be more excited to be working again with Jaden after our experiences on The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) and The Karate Kid (2010). We're thrilled to have the two of them together on this project."
