Exclusive Interview with MIKE P "The Big Homie" Part II

Black Vibes had the pleasure of sitting down with rising West coast artist Mike P from the duo Mike P and Stone Kapone. Their debut album is due out in February 2012.

Black Vibes:You mentioned growing up in the San Fernando Valley what else has influenced your writing style and your approach to your artistry?

Mike P: When I write, its all me. My writing is about my life experiences. I write about the motorcycle lifestyle. The 1 percent lifestyle. I write songs about riding bikes. Everything I spit is real, I can't fake the funk. I have been riding since I was a kid and have been a member of The Hells Angels Motorcycle Club for years.

BV: Whoa that's interesting, I don't know of an MC's who have that affiliation. They are a pretty controversial group.

Mike P: I am a Hells Angel. If you are a good person you are a good person.

BV: Can you talk about your partnership with Stone Kapone?

Mike P: Stone Kapone is my Homey. As MC's we balance each other out. His flow is different from mine. I'm more gritty and more street. He's more of a lyricist in the traditional sense. He gets on the mic and he wants to eat MC's. I don't spit lyrics. I SPIT HOOKS. I think we compliment each other really well.

BV: Can you talk a little bit about what we can expect from your new project?

Mike P: On this new album, we are trying to capture the true Cali lifestyle. We are bringing back feel good music. This project is all about bringing the west coast back. Not about taking the game to the dark side, its about bringing back the light.

BV: Can you talk about your recent Rock The Bells performance?

Mike P: Rock The Bells was cool. It was the biggest crowd I have ever rocked for. There was nothing like it. Doing shows is for sure my ultimate high!

BV: You guys are opening up for Tha Dogg Pound next month what will that be like for you?

Mike P: I admire Snoop and those dudes so it'll be an honor to share the stage with Tha Dogg Pound. Those guys have kept it real for years.

BV: What would your dream tour be?

Mike P: I would like to tour Europe. I have so many Twitter and Facebook fans from Italy and Sweden and they are always like 'when are you coming out here?' It would be an amazing experience to rock festivals and venues across Europe.

BV: Who would that dream tour be with?

Mike P: If I had my choice it would be co-headlining with Ice Cube and Snoop. I would love to tour with them. We are trying to bring back their energy and be the new Death Row.

BV: Anything else you want the people to know before I let you go?

Mike P: Just look out for our project THE BIG PAYBACK dropping in mid February!

BLACK VIBES EXCLUSIVE Mike P "The Big Homie" Interview part 1

Black Vibes had the pleasure of sitting down with one of this years breakout independent artists Mike P from the duo Mike P and Stone Kapone.

This is the first part of the exclusive interview ahead of the release of the dynamic San Fernando Valley duos debut album due out early next year.

BV: Where are you guys from and what inspired you to rap?
Mike P: We are from The San Fernando Valley or as we refer to it, The SFV.It was a pretty rough neighborhood so getting streetwise young was really important. My inspiration for rapping really comes from growing up on 90's West coast Hip Hop. That's still the music that I bump.

BV: What are your thoughts on the current state of Hip Hop?
MP: I'm not really about the bling bling nature of todays hip hop. I am much more interested in the purity and realness of classic Hip Hop like Snoop Dogg, Dre Dre, and Ice Cube.

BV: When did you start entertaining?
MP: I started rapping when I was 14. At first we would do it in our driveway, that as like our stage. At first it was just something to do then we started recording in home studios..then we started playing shows in our neighborhood, people loved our music so we decided to take it to the next level.

BV: What releases have come before your current project?
MP: You can check out some of our early mixtapes like "Mike P The Big Homie Volume One" and "Mike P The Big Homie Volume 2" dropping early next month.
Our new album "The Big Payback" drops February 14th of next year.

BV: Can you talk a little bit about the inspiration for the new album?
MP: This album will be like the new "Chronic". Me and my crew Robbstal, Stone Kapone, Ames, and Surgeon all put 100% into this album just like Dre and Snoop on The Chronic to really take people to our hood. This is Reel Hood Music, we coming up on this project like The New Death Row.

BV: Who in Hip Hop is hot right now in your mind:
MP: I don't think West coast rap is where it should be...I think Nipsey Hussle holds it down and J Roc is killing it but other than that there's not too much going on...

BV: Can you talk about your current single "Summertime in SFV"?
MP: It was first a mixtape track set to a G Malone beat. When i sat down with long time friend and mentor Steve Labelle from A to Z Records he suggested I remix a classic track, and there's none more classic than Summertime:

Check out the video for Summertime in SFV below:
