MARION, Ind. - An investigation is underway after a woman died and several others were injured in a four-car crash in Marion Saturday night.
According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 8:46 p.m., deputies received calls in reference to a traffic accident involving multiple vehicles on State Road 9 at Meridian Street on the north side of Marion.
After deputies arrived on scene, they determined four vehicles were involved in the crash with multiple injuries and at least one entrapment. The injured were transported to an area hospital for treatment. A 57-year-old Marion woman was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital where she died, police said.
Investigators believe three of the vehicles were traveling southbound on State Road 9, and one was northbound. A southbound vehicle slowed to make a left-hand turn onto Meridian Street. The same vehicle was rear-ended causing it to spin into the opposite lane where it was struck by a northbound vehicle, causing it to spin again into the path of another southbound vehicle, police said.
No additional information was released. The incident remains under investigation.
