1 injured, multiple businesses damaged during downtown Indianapolis shooting

INDIANAPOLIS - A man was injured and multiple businesses were damaged during a shooting in downtown Indianapolis early Sunday morning.




According to a press release, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to 14 E. Washington St. around 3:51 a.m. to investigate a shooting. When police arrived at the scene, they did not locate any shooting victims.




As their investigation of the incident continued, IMPD officers learned a victim injured in the shooting had been driven to a local hospital in a private vehicle. Soon after police gathered that piece of information, they got word that a person with a gunshot wound had walked into IU Methodist Hospital.




Officers visited the hospital to further their investigation, and upon their arrival, they confirmed a an adult male with a gunshot wound had, indeed, walked into the facility.




Police ultimately determined that the shooting itself did not occur at 14 E. Washington St. Rather, the incident occurred at 30 S. Meridian St.




IMPD reported that multiple businesses in the area were damaged during the shooting on Meridian Street. A FOX59/CBS4 crew that responded to the scene of the crime Sunday afternoon saw a maintenance team repairing damaged windows at a nearby Starbucks.

IMPD indicated that it is still actively investigating the shooting, and it is encouraging anyone with security camera footage or information related to the incident to come forward.
