2 firefighters injured in near east side house fire

INDIANAPOLIS - Two firefighters were slightly injured after battling a double house fire on Indy's near east side Saturday night.




According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, just before midnight, fire crews responded to the 600 block of N. Rural Street on the report of a house fire.




Fire crews found heavy fire on a vacant home fully engulfed in flames. The fire spread to the house next door where half of it was occupied by two adults, fire officials said.

IFD says both firefighters injured were transported to an area hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported, IFD said.




Fire crews brought the fire under control in 30 minutes. The cause is still under investigation.
