2 injured in Richmond shooting

RICHMOND, Ind. - A shots fired call on NW 17th Street was answered by the Richmond Police Department around 1 a.m. Sunday.

When police responded, they found one victim with multiple gunshot wounds that left him in critical condition. Police provided emergency aid, and medics transported the victim to Reid Health to continue life-saving care.

Shortly after, a second victim who had a non-life-threatening injury, arrived at Reid Health in a private vehicle.

According to a press release from the Richmond Police Department, neither of the victims have cooperated with authorities.

"This kind of violence will never be acceptable in our city. We will continue to investigate, and we will not stop pursuing those responsible," Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly said. "But true change comes when communities and law enforcement work together. We need cooperation because without it, we all lose."

Investigators are encouraging those with information on the shooting to contact RPD at (765) 938-7247.

This is an ongoing story; check back for updates.
