2 Noblesville police officers and multiple civilians hospitalized after Indianapolis crash

INDIANAPOLIS - Two Noblesville police officers and two civilians were hospitalized after a crash north side of Indianapolis Tuesday evening.

Public police reporting systems indicate that the crash happened in the 3900 block of Fall Creek Parkway North Drive around 9:45 p.m. The Noblesville Police Department indicated that its officers were in the area because they were working security for a Noblesville High School graduation ceremony at the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

According the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department - the agency tasked with investigating the incident - the crash happened when a driver travelling southbound on Fall Creek Parkway North Drive failed to stop properly at a red light.

Two other cars were stopped at the same red light the southbound driver failed adequately yield to. The southbound driver sideswiped one of the stopped vehicles and slammed into the other.

The vehicle the southbound driver slammed into was propelled toward the two Noblesville police cars upon impact. The car the southbound driver pushed forward ultimately ended up striking the two Noblesville police vehicles.

IMPD confirmed that the Noblesville police officers were turning out of the fairgrounds onto Fall Creek Parkway North Drive when the crash happened. Investigators believe the Noblesville police officers had a green light before the crash happened.

Per IMPD, the driver of the southbound car that first instigated the crash had to be extricated from their vehicle during the incident. The driver was transported from the scene to a local hospital in critical condition after they were freed by firefighters.

IMPD also reported that a civilian in one of the vehicles stopped at the red light was transported from the scene to a local hospital in stable condition after the crash. NPD confirmed that its officers were hospitalized with minor injuries after the crash.

According to IMPD, none of the students who were at the fairgrounds for Noblesville High School's graduation ceremony were involved in the crash.

NPD confirmed that both of its officers involved in the crash were on-duty when it happened. The NPD cars involved in the crash were fully-marked police vehicles.

IMPD indicated that a total of five cars were involved in the crash - the two Noblesville police vehicles, the southbound vehicle and the two vehicles that were sitting at a red light. Police closed Fall Creek Parkway North Drive for several hours while they cleaned up and investigated the crash.

"I work nights, my big thing is slow down because you can't see what you think you can see," IMPD Night Watch Captain John Arvin said during a media briefing. "You might see a driver coming at you with only one headlight and think it's a motorcycle. So, I always say, if you're going 40 and it's a 35, slow down."

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
