2025 Corvette unveiled as pace car for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS - The pace car choice for the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500 has been unveiled: the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.
Capable of hitting over 230 mph, the Corvette model has the highest top speed of any car ever made in America. The pace car will lead the field to the green flag for the 2025 Indy 500 on Sunday, May 25 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The ZR1, the fastest Corvette ever, delivers 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm from a 5.5L twin-turbo V8. This is the most powerful V8 ever produced by a US auto manufacturer, according to Chevrolet. Photos of the car can be seen below:
The car is reportedly capable of going from zero to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds and can rush through a quarter-mile in 9.6 seconds at 150 mph.
"Designed for speed and performance, the Corvette ZR1 is up for any challenge, and the exterior and interior of the Corvette ZR1 will be on full display as the car fulfills responsibilities on and off the track," an IMS press release read.
For pace car duty, the ZR1 will be equipped with a Carbon Aero package that includes dive planes on the front bumper, underbody aero strakes and a rear wing that creates over 1,200 pounds of downforce when driven at top speed.
The official pace car has Artic White exterior paint and Jet Black interior accents that "pair nicely" with the Indy 500 logos, Chevy said. Finally, carbon fiber wheels complete the car's race-ready look.
"We are once again excited to have the incredible American sports car Corvette pacing the field," IMS/ INDYCAR President J. Douglas Boles said. "The race car-like performance of the Corvette ZR1 makes it the perfect car to pace the Indianapolis 500, and the distinctive sound of the Chevrolet V8 engine will echo brilliantly inside the walls of IMS."
The 2025 race marks the 36th time that Chevrolet has been chosen to design the Indy 500 pace car, and the 22nd overall time since 1978 that the Corvette has been chosen - more than any other car.
Pro Football Hall of Famer and two-time Daytime Emmy Award winner Michael Strahan has been named the honorary pace car driver for the race. The "FOX NFL Sunday" and "Good Morning America" host will ride inside the Corvette and pace the field of 33 drivers. For more information on Strahan's duties, click here.
