3 critically injured in crash on north side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS - Three people were critically injured in a crash on the north side of Indianapolis Sunday night.




Public emergency reporting systems indicate police were called to the 7800 block of Michigan Road around 7:15 p.m. to investigate a crash.




FOX59/CBS4 sent a crew to the crash scene. That crew found at least two vehicles that appeared to have been involved in a crash of some sort.

IMPD officers at the scene told FOX59/CBS4 that three people were critically injured in the crash. One of the vehicles implicated in the crash on Michigan Road, according to police, may have also been involved in a prior hit-and-run crash.




IMPD has not provided any information about the hit-and-run crash that preceded the crash on Michigan Road. Public emergency reporting systems indicate a hit-and-run crash was reported at the intersection of West 79th Street and Township Line Road within 20 minutes of the crash on Michigan Road being reported. Police have not yet confirmed if there is any connection between the crashes that occurred on 79th Street and Michigan Road.




Law enforcement also reported that, while investigators were working at the Michigan Road crash scene, a motorist drove through police tape that had been set up. Police indicated that the motorist was believed to be intoxicated.




It is unknown if police arrested anybody involved in the initial crash on Michigan Road.




It's also unclear if officers formally detained the person that drove through the crash scene while investigators were working. A FOX59/CBS4 crew did, however, see police place a person in handcuffs after the car was driven through the crime scene.




As of this article's publication, no additional information on any of the crashes police are investigating has been made available.
