3 juveniles arrested in relation to hundreds of car break-ins in Fishers, Indianapolis

FISHERS, Ind. -- A group of law enforcement entities, including representatives from the Fishers Police Department, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force, took three juveniles into custody after a recent string of vehicle break-ins.

According to a joint news release from the entities, officials estimate that the three juveniles were involved in hundreds of vehicle break-ins that occurred across Indianapolis and Fishers. This comes after a series of vehicle break-ins were also recently reported in Whitestown.

"Today, we stand united in our aggressive, collaborative efforts to stop criminals from victimizing our residents and wreaking havoc on our community," said Fishers Police Chief Ed Gebhart in a release. "We are committed to deploying every resource at our disposal to ensure the safety and security of our neighborhoods. Let it be known: our officers will not relent in our pursuit of peace and safety for every member of our communities."

The release claims that the juveniles were located in a stolen vehicle in a Fishers neighborhood when they were apprehended early Tuesday morning. The juveniles were not identified by the law enforcement agencies.

"We often talk about the power of collaboration between law enforcement agencies," said IMPD Chief Chris Bailey in the release. "Today's arrests demonstrate what that collaboration makes possible. By working together, we are able to quickly remove offenders from our streets and better protect the safety and security of our communities. This is also a testament to the dedication, professionalism and skill of the men and women of our agencies. Our officers do great police work every day to keep our neighborhoods safe."

As part of the investigation, the release said stolen property, including guns as well as vehicles stolen from Fishers and Indianapolis, has been recovered.

"These arrests are the result of strong partnerships the FBI has with our local law enforcement colleagues. By working together, we can swiftly address violent crime and hold accountable those who endanger our communities," FBI Indianapolis Special Agent in Charge Timothy O' Malley said in the release. "The FBI will continue to bring our resources to the table to support our partners and protect the safety of residents and keep our neighborhoods safe."

While arrests have been made as part of this investigation, the three entities encourage the public to "stay vigilant and consistent," stressing that locking a car is "no longer enough." The entities are encouraging individuals not to leave any valuables, including firearms, in vehicles.

The release said this continues to be an active investigation. Fishers residents with information or video surveillance are asked to email the department at fisherspd@fishersin.gov. Indianapolis residents with information are asked to email impd.publicaffairs@indy.gov.
