COLUMBUS, Ind. - A group of five Columbus residents has been playing the Hoosier Lotto and other Hoosier Lottery games for 11 years.
After initially meeting at a factory job, Milly and her friends have stayed in touch ever since. They buy lottery tickets together to have some fun and excitement while dreaming that one day any one of them could possibly win the jackpot.
That dream became a reality when the group purchased the $9.9 million winning ticket at Jack's Place located at 910 3rd Street on Aug. 16.
When Milly scanned the ticket on Aug. 18 and sent a picture to the group, she realized it was much too high an amount to pay at a retailer. She sent a message to the group saying, "OMG! Everyone, we hit it. We won!"
One of the members of the group was about to board a plane for vacation when she heard and nearly canceled the trip to claim the jackpot, but ended up going on the trip and the rest of the group patiently waited.
"We love when Hoosiers play Indiana's hometown favorite jackpot game, and we especially love it when Hoosiers win," said Hoosier Lottery Executive Director Sarah Taylor. "The fact a group of longtime friends and co-workers from the Columbus area have won this jackpot together adds an extra layer of excitement."
"Milly's Lottery Pool" opted to take the cash value of $4,682,171, split five ways.
The members of the group all share similar plans of buying new cars or houses and placing the money in the bank. Mostly, they all share the same thought that this will take a weight off their shoulders.
