INDIANAPOLIS - A five-year-old boy was left in a fire that broke out in the family's home, forcing his mother to evacuate before finding him.
At 8:11 a.m., the Indianapolis Fire Department was dispatched to a call of a fire and smoke showing in the 800 block of Barbary Lane.
According to IFD, the mother awoke to find heavy black smoke and was unable to reach her child. She panicked and evacuated through the sliding glass door. She called 911 once she was out.
When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and fire pushing from the three-story structure and made an aggressive attack.
A squad entered to search for the boy, and they found the boy asleep in his room. His bedroom door was closed, which kept the smoke from entering the bedroom.
The boy did not sustain any injuries but has been transported to Riley Hospital.
