Arrest warrants issued for 2 people accused of shooting, killing 2 dogs in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, Ind. -- Criminal charges have been filed against two people accused of shooting and killing two dogs on a private property located near the Boone and Clinton County line.




According to a news release, the Boone County Prosecutor's Office has filed charges against 49-year-old Paul Ed Bowman and 21-year-old Brayden Bowman. Both face preliminary charges of Killing a Domestic Animal (Level 6 Felony) and Obstruction of Justice (Level 6 Felony).

Previous reporting shows that the Boone County Sheriff's Office began investigating on March 18 after the Humane Society of Clinton County informed them that two chocolate Labrador Retrievers were missing.




BCSO's Investigations Division and Animal Control executed a search warrant three days later at a Boone County property where detectives believed the two dogs were shot and killed. On March 27, Deputies executed a second search warrant at the same property and a portion of Sugar Creek, where they located two deceased chocolate Labrador Retrievers.




Authorities utilized the Department of Natural Resources and an aerial drone during their search efforts. BCSO said at the time that the owners had been informed.








The remains of the dogs were then transported to Purdue University Veterinary Hospital for additional testing. On April 28, BCSO said Purdue's Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory listed "injuries consistent with gunshot wounds" as the cause of death for the two dogs.




Online court records indicate warrants were issued Tuesday out of Boone Circuit Court for both individuals. The incident remains under investigation.
