Authorities investigating 'aircraft accident' near Indianapolis Regional Airport in Hancock County
HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. - One person was hospitalized after an aircraft crash occurred near Indianapolis Regional Airport in Hancock County Monday night.
In a Facebook post, the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department confirmed that it was called to the intersection of North 600 West and Airport Boulevard sometime before 9:10 p.m. to assist with an "aircraft accident with entrapment." The Buck Creek Township Fire Department subsequently reported that the aircraft in question crashed into a field.
Officials with the Hancock County 911 Center indicated that the crashed aircraft was a type of paraglider. Authorities at the 911 center could not confirm the extent of the injuries the paraglider's pilot sustained.
Initially, a medical helicopter was called to the scene, though authorities ultimately called it off. The paraglider's pilot was instead transported to a local hospital via ground ambulance.
The Vernon Township Fire Department worked with SCTFD and BCTFD at the crash scene. As of this article's publication, no additional information on the incident had been made available.
