The 53-year-old rapper received congratulations from industry friends including Questlove, Big Sean, and DJ D-Nice. Marshall Mathers has been transparent about his recovery journey following an accidental methadone overdose in December 2007. His addiction problems began in the early 2000s during 8 Mile filming. "I was taking so many pills that I wasn't even taking them to get high anymore, I was taking them to feel normal," he told Rolling Stone in 2011. At his peak, he consumed 40 to 60 Valium and 20 to 30 Vicodin daily. His friend Proof's death in 2006 worsened his spiral until a 2008 wake-up call. Eminem sought rehab counseling and began running daily, stating "I either get help, or I am going to die."
