Brad Arnold, 3 Doors Down Lead Singer, Dies At 47 After Cancer Battle

Brad Arnold, lead vocalist and founding member of rock band 3 Doors Down, died at age 47 following his battle with stage 4 cancer. The band announced on Instagram on Saturday (Feb. 7) that Arnold "passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, in his sleep after his courageous battle with cancer" with "his beloved wife Jennifer and his family by his side." In May 2025, Arnold revealed he was fighting stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma that had spread to his lung, telling fans at the time, "That's not real good," while adding "We serve a mighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear." Arnold formed 3 Doors Down in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi, with his high school friends.

Their breakthrough hit, "Kryptonite," reached No. 3 on Billboard Hot 100 in 2000, while 2002's "When I'm Gone" spent 17 weeks atop the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group. The band's debut album, The Better Life, sold 7 million copies and peaked at No. 7 on Billboard 200. Arnold is the second original member of the group to die, following the 2016 death of guitarist Matt Roberts from an accidental prescription drug overdose.
